SC GOP official threatens wife--says cough syrup made him do it...

I've gone sound to sleep on cough syrup, thrown up from cough syrup, even been hyper ("paradoxical reaction"). I've never locked someone in a car and threatened anyone after taking cough syrup.

A former high ranking South Carolina Republican official who was detained Thursday night after allegedly threatening his wife, says he was under the influence of a prescribed cough medicine at the time, reports the Charleston City Paper.

Todd Kincannon, a Columbia attorney and the former executive director of the S.C. Republican Party, was accused of threatening his wife while refusing to let her out of his car, according to a report from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the police report, Kincannon’s wife, Ashely Suzanne Griffith, told a deputy there had been an altercation in a Chick-fil-A parking lot on the drive home. Griffith stated that she asked to get out of their car after her husband began screaming at her, saying she hit him repeatedly as he accelerated when she tried to escape. In her statement, she said Kincannon also threatened to kill himself if she left the vehicle.

In the police report, Griffith states that her husband saw a police vehicle and “freaked out,” saying he would would drive the car into a concrete barrier if the cops became involved.

Although Kincannon denied grabbing his wife and threatening her, the deputy called for an EMS unit to check on him because she stated that he had threatened to kill himself. Kincannon was then transported to Lexington Medical Center for “further evaluation” and was later released.

Not making excuses for him, but he wasn't arrested or charged with anything.

 

Oh come on! What you've exprerienced or didn't experience w/a medication isn't the issue. Everybody is different & has different reactions to certain meds...... what would work for you wouldn't work for someone else.

 

Psychotic brand cough medicine... when the regular prescription brand isn't enough.

 

Facts dont matter agenda does to him...

 

Maybe he should rehab at the same place Hillary did hers.

 

Todd Kincannon is a serious lush......... It wasn't the cough syrup.

 

For his claim to be legit , imo, one would have to drink multiple bottles worth.

Kincannon is a notorious drunk and he's had multiple DUIs.

 

Kincannon gets rip snorting drunk and gets on twitter... there have been several incidents.. In the last one he said to just kill all Ebola patients.

 

And you know this for a FACT?

If his behavior was out of character, meaning he had never acted that way b/f, despite being a 'serious lush', then there's a very good chance there was something in the cough syrup that sent him over the edge........

You mean you have never heard of anyone having a bizarre reaction to a certain med?

I will not criticize him until it's been confirmed thru his dr that the cough syrup did not cause it.......

 

Yes.. I know it for a fact.. He has a serious drinking problem .. and after numerous episodes the people of SC have turned their backs on him..

He's a young guy.. pro life .. pro family values .. all that, but he can't stay sober.

When it comes to everyone's system and everyone's different, they can have bad/different reactions to different meds......

This is minor, but if I take an Tylenol PM, I'm up all night, restless legs. Told a friend about it and she said the stuff puts her to sleep. Well, dang! Why does it work so great for Gail and not me?

There's something in the PM part of it that doesn't work for me, but does for her...... that's why.

 

I think he's had repeated rehab... There have been several pretty awful episodes..

 

Wow..... interesting. The thing is, if the alcoholic doesn't want to sober up, there's nothing anyone can do. It's entirely up to the person whether they want to live a life of sobriety or not........

I had once worked at an alcohol treatment center and what an education I got. I heard so many sad, tragic stories.... my hunny talked me into quitting b/c I was coming home to crabby and sad.

NO, this country does not need an alcoholic president...God help us.

 

So far there is nothing substantial in this thread to tell us squat. We know that no charges were filed, that he was released, and there is no record of prior police contact, and that there are some possible bad outcomes from taking this drug.

There is nothing here to see, except a very bad night for all concerned.

 

Look him up ... Todd Kincannon was in the news a couple of years ago more than once and had to resign from the legislature.

Maybe he did take cough syrup with a fifth of Wild Turkey..

The over the counter one is the psycho one , DXM, is the main ingredient that people abuse to trip. Presciption cough syrup is usually abused more for the codeine and second active ingredient proz something (can't remember the name ). Kids in my highschool used to drink bottles of the DXM to trip... really stupid imo. Small doses didn't do anything to them.

 

Kincannon has a long reputation for being an out of control drunk.

 

So let me get this straight.

But then after I click your thread, the first thing I see in big bold letters is this: "Ex-GOP official" which pretty much makes this story moot.

So I ask, what is your point here, just click bait?

 

I would NOT be surprised if another substance was in his system at the time. Let me rephrase that--I'd bet on it.

aren't buying it. I'm sure the police officer didn't...
