The very instant Michael Mann presented his hockey stick to Al Gore who rushed out to create the carbon credit markets and then attempted to legislate a legal requirement to make folks pay for their CO2 usage was the instant it was politicized. Things are being seen and coming to life, that had been frozen for thousands of years.
Meaning, the earth used to be warmer then, than now.

But AGW/global warming/climate change is specifically about the claim that man's contributions to the greenhouse effect are responsible for the current warming trend (specifically warming of global average temperatures), and that this trend is very rapid compared to natural warming trends of the past. No other cause has been offered that fits with the current warming trend we see. This is what the denialist crowd doesn't seem to understand. Or, in very rare cases, they try to claim that no warming is happening at all. But that's a fringe within a fringe.
