That's not how it works. Scientists generally publish legitimate research and have no control over the publicity or the headlines.
I see....so you heard all this and saw all this while "on your way" to the "Commo center" where tou could hear the "tower traffic" and see the aircraft types.
If the paper really does seriously make the suggestion that this is an object sent by another civilisation to Earth from outside the solar system then I disagree, they are either crazy in putting their scientific careers on the line or they are fishing for headlines.
You would think an advanced civilization would think that Art is foolish and there would be no reason to fund the Endowment for the Arts and there is nothing more beautiful than the supreme leader They are not creepy.. they are beautiful.. probobally done by liberal disordered space aliens who want to see Art return to their culture
Were probably blacklisted anyway, regarding what planets not to visit. But just to make sure aliens don't actually come here I have left a sign on the door; Or enter at your own risk. And if any aliens do sneak in they will quickly learn how humans conduct ''greetings''; https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...ffered-brutal-attack-98-year-old-war-veteran/ Aliens, move along! I heard Zorgon5 is nice this time of year.
Good Fire Wall.. I am sure Darth Vader will get a kick out of it.. Stay on target.. hit the rectangle
Am I in context here?? Why do space aliens stay at the top of the list in world news?? Did they take anything else besides Betsy's boat??
Yeah, you could be right. Now, they could have simply mentioned that aliens are one possibility, since of course they are, and then the headline writers went crazy. However, here is the paper: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1810.11490.pdf And I think you are right, they seem to be way too credulous with respect to that possibility.
It's actually a return pod for Kevin Spacey he realises it's time to go back to Kpax. I would assume any more intelligent species would look down on us and use us as a food source
Here is a little reality check for you folks. Think for minute on where we humans are with micro technology and ask yourself if a more advanced civilization would send a big a$$ craft all the way here instead of a tiny one that does the same thing and no one will even notice.
The "alien life is coming to this planet to save us from ourselves" meme is nothing more than deflection. But it's been a massively useful deflection over the decades. All the way back to 1947 when that "sensitive" Nazi technological advanced circular STOL aircraft soon to be dubbed by the US military as a "flying saucer" crashed in New Mexico. But you'll never convince a large segment of the public to face up to reality in this respect. The meme has become far too entrenched in the human psyche.
UPDATE Harvard boffin has second thoughts about Oumuamua . . . "Astronomer Avi Loeb kicked off international ridicule oops, I mean intrigue (my edit lol!) when he co-authored a paper that suggested Oumuamua, which flew past Earth last year, could have been a probe sent by aliens from deep in space to survey Earth. The research explored the unexpected movement of the rock and suggested that it could be a "lightsail", which was sent intentionally by aliens to investigate Earth." https://www.independent.co.uk/life-...ock-proof-probe-latest-avi-loeb-a8625606.html "lightsail" - that's a new one! Almost as daft as Oumuamua?
Are you sure? I heard that a comet losing mass in a tail along with the effect of our star's gravity accelerates a comet. Are you saying that losing mass, illustrated by the tail has no effect whatsoever upon the speed of a comet? Just curious.
Thanks for finding the paper, it really is the only way to determine what they've said. IMO it seems to be six of one (I agree they seem to be a bit keen on the light sail idea) and half a dozen of the other (headline writers a little too keen to declare ALIENS !!!!11!!1!1!1). The next step is to see whether this is a minority view from a pair of fringe researchers, or whether it gains wider scientific credibility.
In that case I'm surprised the reporter's name isn't Phil Space? When NASA doesn't have anything on the boil to entertain the gullibles they just bring this story out, dust it off, and re-publish it.
Not NASA. In this case it's two over-excited Harvard post-docs who have offered one startling suggestion among others. The papers reporting on the story OTOH have taken those one or two sentences and suggested that's the whole thrust of the paper.
it's easier to suggest our moon is an artificial structure, every crater is of uniform depth, the astronauts themselves stated that it 'rang like a gong' for hours after touchdown, it doesn't spin yet maintains orbit, always the same side facing us for observational ease... carry on
Spoken like a true gullible? The point is that if NASA hadn't mentioned it there would have been no story to be misinterpreted?
I really don't think you understand how astronomy and astrophysics works. There's a huge amount of primary research that goes on that requires no input or involvement from NASA whatsoever.
So it was another 'space agency' that put it out there, and not NASA? Does that really make any difference in your book? For obvious reasons, they're all in it together?? And I should hope that there is 'huge amounts of research going on' considering how much it's costing us, the poor long-suffering taxpayers.
You're the one who keeps bringing up NASA Yes they're all in "it" (the production of primary scientific research) together. How much is it costing us ?
