I can understand that, but then we get into sovereignty issues and we are affected people we never met in very real ways. I like the idea of foreign conservatory groups buying land and keeping it in trust. They are doing that here in Florida to restore the Kissimmee wetlands and farmers and environmentalists are walking away from the table as winners. Not all other methods produce the same results. Not every country pays eminent domain like we do.

I have to disagree. I fish for example, and without bag and gear limits the commercial fishery can run amok. We have become highly efficient at dominating nature. Preventing a tragedy of the commons is a legitimate concern for government, as long as they stay prudent.

I understand what you are saying, I was thinking in a longer game. Obviously we fish Cod to extinction no more Cod, given time, another species will adapt into the niche left by Cod and go on being fish. If on the other hand we fish all species in the sea to extinction, there is no coming back.

Sure, but I often see arguments about ancient rain forest environments, and the bio diversity they contain. The reality is the bio diversity comes from the geography around and through those rain forests, not the habitat itself. The great coal fields around the world are proof of the value of trees, and the intergrated part they play in the biosphere in general.

Oh ok I see what you are saying. I don't think you will see fish put to extinction through fishing your target changes as the finery is depleted, but we can do massive damage in a short time. Unleashed the American fishery could be taking in the catch. Cod is coming back up north though right? I ha shears that a few years back.
