The Japanese in question were the people who were directly harmed.

The US Congress cannot tax the American people in a punitive manner for actions the US government never participated in. The government never owned slaves, did not buy nor sell them, so how can the US taxpayers be expected to subsidize the ancestors of people the government itself did not wrong? As to the Japanese, that was the US government's work, ergo its fine for the government to tax the people for its mistake. That's just not the case with slavery...

So why did President Lincoln sign the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act? (April 16, 1862).
This bill gave slaveowners in the District of Columbia $300.00 for each slave that they set free. It was reparations for slaveowners. The government via President Lincoln paid those slaveowners REPARATIONS.
    Can you explain this?

Reparations for slave owners is your precedent? Still has no bearing on getting reparations for ancestors of slaves generations later. DC isn't a state, while its residents are citizens, they were not represented in Congress at the time, it is an administrative ward of the state. It would make a poor example or precedent to use in any case. The real point of the reparations battle today, is that 100% of contemporary Americans have not and do not own slaves. Its a non-issue that only serves to set everyone against blacks. Why should Asians pay reparations for slaves they or their ancestors never owned? Why should Hispanics or Northern whites who shed blood to free the slaves. It may be the most politically stupid issue in history, and every cycle some liberal idiots latch on to it. It is 100% guarantee to lose the general election...

You stated that the government NEVER paid reparations. I just proved to you that they did.

Not to former slaves. There is no precedent for that generations later. Your own example was paid to slave owners, not sure what your point is...

No matter how you try to spin it, the descendants of American slaves are owed reparations. It is not a stupid issue to the millions of Blacks who are affected.
As far as this issue turning some people against Blacks, well---there are certain people against Blacks anyway.

My point is if reparations can be paid to slaveowners, the descendants of slaves can receive reparations too.

They aren't owed reparations from the American taxpayer. The government bought, sold, or owned no slaves, the government cannot pay reparations for something it had no part of, that would be unconstitutional. Anyway the American people already paid, in blood and treasure, if anyone deserves reparations it would be the decedents of Union soldiers...

No they can't, the slaves themselves have already received their just rewards, freedom and citizenship, future generations have absolutely no claim to profit off the suffering of their ancestors. That's actually very disgusting if one thinks about it...

Blacks didn't receive full citizenship until the 1960's. There is still a question whether they are totally free.
What is disgusting is holding other human beings in chattel slavery, stripping them of their humanity, raping them, beating them, lynching them. THAT is what is disgusting.

The Constitution doesn't forbid it states for what purposes Congress can allocate funds. Where is the restitution part? And the Japanese who had a direct claim for civil rights violations received just compensation as a fine against the United States for such as their property that was seized and businesses that were seized.

Trump said he wouldn't cut rich folks' taxes then turned around and gave 85% of the tax cut to people making $400,000 per year. Obama said you could keep your doctor.

Perhaps an amendment could be made to the Constitution so that reparations could be paid to the descendants of American slaves.

Lincoln was not politically strong enough to battle the Confederacy and slaveowners in his backyard at the same time

This is Kamala Harris exploring the concept of never being President.

That's a lie, they received citizenship in 1868. Democrat imposed Jim Crow laws are a completely separate issue and have nothing to do with citizenship. Clearly you do not understand this issue or are blatantly trying to blur the issue for some other nefarious reason...

If they received citizenship in 1868, why were they still treated like second class citizens until the time of the Civil Rights movement? In the Deep South especially they were citizens on paper, but not in real life. I understand the issue very well.

The more noise the reparations crowd makes is better for my side. Reparations will never happen in this country for slavery, it is almost a guaranteed victory for whoever stands against it...
