It does amaze you who they hire as editors.

The is an HISTORIC EVENT popped up on my Yahoo homepage as a current event.

Does it really upset you that we are making fun of it? Do you REALLY think this rates as an HISTORIC EVENT?

If the MODs want to move I have no problem. Just thought this section could use a good laugh. Sorry if it upset you.

Wonder if she is the first woman to wear 3" earrings on the cover of Teen Magazine? That might be even a GREATER HISTORIC EVENT!

    I am OUTRAGED!!!!!!

    It's not 1950 anymore!!!!!!!!!

    Or 1850!!!!!!!!!!

    WHO does this... ...person...

    Think. She. Is?????? :angered:

We not only needs DOZENS more hard-hitting Current Events threads like this, we need dozens more about JUST this story.

Other possible related topics to the War on Teen Vogue:

    Why isn't Serena WIlliams white?

Why is a black woman on the cover of a magazine?

    Why isn't it 1850 anymore?

Whatever happened to that 3/5 thing? That seemed fair to me!

    Did civil rights destroy Woolworth's?

If I close my eyes real tight, can I pretend MLK was never born?

    :salute:

I remember a couple of decades ago, when I was starting out in the workforce and didn't know if I should go on job interviews with braids. Would I get the job? Around that time, it was becoming acceptable and I have worn them to work for years. Believe it or not, this is a breakthrough for black women, whose ethnic hairstyles were considered to be unprofessional.

Similar bias has been prevalent on magazine covers, but increasingly there has been more diversity. So, when the writer says history-making, she must mean just that ... that this is the first time that cornrows have appeared on a teen magazine cover.

Should we shut schools down for this event - no way and I can appreciate the levity surrounding what is on the surface an absurdity. In reality, hair can be used to make a statement about the nature of beauty and inclusion. That's why people were across in the 60's. This advancement isn't worth a holiday but it's worth noting. Now, continue to joke about it. I get it. It is just hair and you can't fathom why anyone should care. I'll smile with you but not for exactly the same reason.

Do you really take her hair that serious? And I think there is plenty of diversity in our entertainment and fashion and has been for years. I remember when I had long hair back in the '70's and rednecks would make comments. I don't recall the first time some guy with long hair appearing on a teen magazine being cited as an HISTORIC EVENT.

    Sungbody takes her hair super-seriously.

Serena herself cares less about her hair than you do.

A little help here. What language are we speaking? Khoisan? Should we be 'clicking' at the consonants?

Maybe he's traumatized about losing another one of our cherished white traditions to the brown and black hordes. There may be demonstrations. There will be ignorant guttersniping.
