Guns must be kept out of the hands of children 9 and under, or be charged with voluntary manslaughter/attempted for any accidents committed by the child. Create a State funded suicide prevention task force to have small groups of mental health professionals go around the state providing free counseling, mental health evaluations, and support. There are similar programs for medical doctors. Launch a comprehensive state study of common psychological drugs to determine potential risks for violent behavior associated with their use. Create a state program to temporarily surrender your firearms at any police station for 72 hours. Implement a national counseling app produced by the Michigan Department of Education, for students K through 12 as well as College, that provides counseling resources including face to face tele-counseling to provide statewide counseling resources for all students. Create a multi agency task force to target known gang members for tax evasion through the State revenue service.
Because these are all meant to lower gun deaths and violence. These would be passed in one comprehensive gun violence prevention bill. (My state loves guns whether progressively liberal or extreme conservative) This is a compromise and it's tied to guns because they are the simplest and biggest contributor to violence and homicide/suicide in the nation.
Ummm... Where is the "compromise"? What does the "pro-gun" crowd get? Most of that babble you listed are demands from the gun-grabber crowd. A lot of it has absolutely NOTHING to do with firearms. Statistics show that African Americans are the biggest contributor to violence and homicides. Japanese and South Koreans lead in suicides (by more than double) and they have few firearm owners in those countries. Perhaps it's not firearms that is the problem. Ever think about that? https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u....ges/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-3.xls
so that funding and resources allocated to the legislation go towards gun violence prevention and so it is not construed by the courts to not have any connections to guns. If this is not tied to guns, then someone found to be extremely mentally ill or who is suicidal would still be able to get a gun without and way to stop them. This law allows for education, help and intervention, without intervention it is greatly weakened.
This was what I was able to agree on with the liberal pro gun subreddit. It is a Education, Prevention, and intervention bill. Yes a minute % of african American males that grow up in drug, and gang infested areas and that are in poverty with family in prison commit nearly 1/2 of homicides. Yes they have higher suicide rates that does not make the US suicide rates not an issue.
Again, you said "compromise". What does the pro-gun side get in return for all that you listed? Firearm ownership and rights totally un-infringed? And "liberal pro-gun" is a oxymoron. Blacks commit way more than half the homicides in this country. I left you a link to that fact.
Random, and ineffective. Flaco the felon wants a gun. Name one thing that prevents him from getting one: Mental "health" efforts have record numbers of people taking meds that list "Suicidal thoughts or actions" as side effects. More laws and medication is not the answer.
This is what you get when your in a state that loves guns sigh. It gives a lot of mental health resources and reigns in police. But yeah the liberal pro gun subreddit basically said my first proposal was completely a no go minus the first one on there.
Now that's just ignant. You want a 10 year old be able to walk into a firearm store and buy a AR-15 and ammunition for it? Is that your "compromise"? Again, that's just ignant. The pro-gun crowd doesn't want that so what else you got in the form of a "compromise"?
1. That does not seem to be the case in any other country that has implemented real gun control. 2. Where is the gun control in this bill? Btw you should be happy I have decided to refrain from going for AWB and other real measures.
So, you admit that your thread title that mentions a "compromise" is just a bull **** title as there is no compromise in it. Got it.
6, 8, 9 and 13 are pretty good ideas. 6- would need really solid language in it that there can be no penalties imposed on the owner, its entirely voluntary, and the weapons must be promptly returned. Otherwise no one is ever going to do it. 8- these costs should be covered/provided outright by the governing body thats thats levying the regulations. tax deductible is at least a step in the right direction 9- this is a no brainer. the only reason we don't already do this is because it runs counter to the current curriculum of teaching gun abstinance. 13- Im OK with this, but really we should just make the penalties for violence stiffer across the board, gun or not. 14- im still mulling this one over. While tax evasion might be a good way to go after gangs (can the govt tax black market profits???) It sounds like a lot of 'guilt by association' would necessarily be involved in the process, which I oppose.
The greatest human threat to human life, safety and liberty has always been the criminal use of deadly force by Big Government. An armed citizenry is the only practical defense. That is why the right to bear arms should not be infringed. I bet you know that.
