the problem was so many lost their jobs in such a short time frame after the Bush economy crashed, that taking them all off unemployeement before enough jobs exist would hurt America... so yes they are benefiting much longer then they should be, but the alternative is we hurt the economic recovery

unemployment only pays a fraction of the original wage, not the full wage they were earning

I lost my job of 28 years then and within 3 months had a better one with a better package. My son retired from the military back in June and he and his wife moved back here, they both got jobs within 3 months hers a minimum wage retail job he as a mechanic for a trucking company, his MOS in the military although he was a Sargent and he is on his tools with the new job.

As was noted in the last report, the labor participation number ticked up .2 points analyst say BECAUSE people believe that the emergency extension may finally be up. There are jobs out there, they might not be what everyone wants but that is no excuse not to take one of them.

That is what you have you an emergency fund for and let's not forget many people will work under the table tax free.

Historically spurring it is what gets people back in the workforce. And some could make a career out of "actively and sincerely looking for work" just as many make a career out of "actively and unsincerely" being disabled.

Jobs are available in every major city in the nation. They might not be the most desirable ones, they might not pay more than 6/10 of your original salary, but working those jobs instead of being given unemployment would increase productivity as compared to not working them. It would help the economy.

Six months is sufficient time to find out if you can replace your current job with one you'd like to have. After that, asking for unemployment rather than work in a less than ideal job is unfair to your working neighbors.

People that want uemployment benefits extended to 73 weeks are the same people that breast feed their kids until they are four and change their diapers until 3. Reminds of this video:
