No-fly nightmares: The program's most embarrassing mistakes: Democrats want to use the federal government's no-fly list, meant to keep suspected terrorists grounded, as a guideline for enforcing new laws to restrict firearm purchases. Senate Republicans blocked that effort last week, but President Barack Obama kept up his push this weekend. "Right now, people on the no-fly list can walk into a store and buy a gun," Obama said in his weekly radio address. "That is insane." He made a similar appeal during his address to the nation on Sunday night. The new initiative is reviving questions about the legality and efficacy of the no-fly list, which has drawn criticism and challenges in court by civil rights groups, including the ACLU. http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/07/politics/no-fly-mistakes-cat-stevens-ted-kennedy-john-lewis/ Should the people on this list have been denied due process rights? Denied 2A rights? Branded as terrorists? Denied self defense? And many of those were wealthy, powerful people able to try to do something about it. Ordinary people are just screwed. But even a US Representative has been stopped from flying at least 35 times and get himself removed from the list. Should those people have been on the no-fly list - particularly the 18 month old "terrorist?"
There should be no "no fly list." The idea is fundamentally unconstitutional--to take away the basic liberty of free movement without due process. I understand, and agree with, the special selectee list, where people are on a list to be searched more closely, but not the "no fly list."
