That works for me also.....I'll never understand how people can let themselves get so brain-washed that they'd even shun a son, brother, grandson whom they claim they truly love.....

Move on. That is the only way to handle it. And yes, I have experienced it and so has relatives that were in JW. I have never joined their "belief" myself but others in my family have.
People that shun someone else to make them feel like outsiders have no part of religion in it's true sense. People shunning other people not affiliated in religious aspects are just sad human beings. Best to see their true colors sooner rather than later. Consider it a learning experience.

True. Moving on and leaving that religion in your past is the best solution, which I hope Kurt will do and from what I've heard, so far he hasn't had any contact w/his family.....and he won't until he tells them he has 'repented'. Lynn, his grandmother, told Gail that if they obey everything the elders say, they will 'live forever in Paradise' - or is it heaven? - well, wherever and she truly believes that......

I wish I was being shunned by Jehovah's Witnesses. They come to my door on a regular basis. I have windows in my door that are up high. One of the pushy, little arses that comes to my door was jumping up and looking in my windows. How friggin rude. One time on Halloween, I had pumpkins on my stoop, and they came to the door and said something about satan. I don't like them.

Many are. Many aren't. Its easy to find one that isn't. Some people don't want to and that's ok too. The truth is, there are many good people out there.
This situation sounds creepy and cultish. Any place (preacher) that wants to control your life and family... Id steer clear of.

Just get a wild look in your eyes and invite them in, tell them you are going to save them from hell fire and damnation.. Bet that gets their attention. LOL.

Hubby was JW. His whole family is JW except for the ones still in the Rez. Hubby has been "disfellowshipped" and that happened almost 35 years ago. He celebrated with having Halloween for the first time and loving it. Nope, his own parents disowned him because their cult told them to. He also refused to "repent". In short, he told them to go Eff themselves. Not his parents...the cult. He loves Christmas and Halloween. And when JWs come to the door all he has to do is say when they start their schpeel "I am disfellowshipped" and they turn away immediately so no need to slam the door in their faces. When I answer the door, I tell them I would be happy to listen to their crap if they will first let me do a tarot card reading. They walk away...again, no door slamming needed.
In other words....MrArkie did just fine without their bullcrap and so will Kurt. Including his family. Pfffffffffffft on them.

You don't have to put up w/that crap and if I were you, I absolutely would not. Just tell them - politely, at first - to take your address off their list. When they come to my door, I just tell them I'm not interested, have my own religion....if they ask which one, I tell them that's my business and quietly shut the door. I won't waste my time listening, just to be polite when I can politely shut the door.....

Put a sign on the door saying Free Tarot Readings To The Right People, stick an old fashioned straw broom out there next to the sign with another sign that says "Do not use. This is my ride" and on a small cheap doormat, paint a pentagram.

Good for your hubby.......Kurt is 21 and single. He has a job he likes and non-JW friends, also family who aren't JW's, so he has support if he decides to let it go.....

Listening to a few pimply-faced young adults tell me about God is something I would never do. I do what you do. Tell them I have my own religion, and then shut the door in their face.
