If you speed up the growth process of a plant or crop, it's going to not have the time to create the proper nutritional base for which it is being consumed. Rapid growth of any plant, or tree, provides you with an inherently weak structure (berry shrubs or canes). Heavy, rapid production of fruits will end up being less ripened, less nutrition, and generally less quality.

    You will have to cite examples.For example.Lack of rain { drought }
and excessive heat over time will literally devastate crops.
Like what happened in the Plains during the Dust Bowl years.
Plus having the Cats { Bulldozers } come in and landscape the
farms.Making for flatter land where the winds { Dusters } can
blow off or up in the air whatever topsoil exists.
Topsoil and it's correct balance is necessary for a good garden.
    I was buddy-buddy with a guy who lived {early 20's } with
his parents on their Baby Farm.It was around 11 acres. Each year they
had a great garden because they knew exactly what and how to grow.
Plus the Mom canned a lot. They kept 4 cattle and slaughtered
1 or 2 each season before replacing with 2 calfs.
But I remember this buddy insisting how important taking a
soil sample is before attempting a garden. Then send off to the
    local Ag Office for analysis.

Proper ph balance for soil (around 7 for most crops) and ground nutrients will provide a good base for growing crops. One can have 'dirt' with no nutrients, and some crops may grow, but they will be weak and stunted and likely provide little or no fruit. While most crops like a loamy, reasonably draining soil, some prefer more moisture. Knowing the crops needs and when to supplement the water is important.

Soil and water samples can be taken to the Ag department at most major universities, or to a Farmer's Co-op and they'll likely send it to the State for testing. Basic ph kits are usually also available at Ag stores.

I'm not educated on large scale farming, but logic would say that changing the geography of land will change drainage patterns, could cause the field to drain too quickly, or not well enough, and unless grading is done properly, possible flooding of nearby fields.

I am not saying the corn was lower or higher in nutrition but it looked really good. Every ear was filled out and no insect damage at all. It looked as perfect as corn could and it didnt grow any faster or slower than the non gm variety.

Lower ph for acid loving plants like blueberries ....and grapes dont like an overly rich soil. A quick way to tell if a soil is healthy is to use a shovel. If the soil is teaming with earthworms it is healthy. In fact..earthworms are also the very best fertilizer.

Shelter belts and contour plowing reduced much of the wind erosion in the plains states. Low till and no till farming may be the ultimate solution, but there is evidence of droughts that lasted thousands of years in the central plains.
There were permanent settlements within about 100 miles of the base of the Rocky's and beyond the Mississippi - none in between.
The long term future of agriculture in the plains states is bleak absent a diversion of flood water to vast reservoirs for irrigation.

    [Bridge] At the right degrees

And once we're all trapped here

    There's all these crazy complications

    With silly explanations

    And willy exploitation

Barbara Bush will be missed. She was not political or if she
was it was a very well kept secret. She was a dog lover.Anyone
who is a dog lover is alright in my book.Somehow her hair turned
white early on in her life and she kept it that a way.Now that's a
real gal.Ya take what life throws at you and make the best of.
I learned last night hubby George Sr. called her his Silver Fox.
And that they were seen most times holding hands together when
in public.Another fine example of Marriage as an Institution.
There was only one other First Lady mom who had a son as
    President.
One could tell when visiting Barbara Bush when to expect her.
Her dogs would enter a room first as she followed.
Right there a Disney Movie in the making.
She seemed to effortlessly make the change from living in the
Northeast { Rye,N.Y. or borderline Connecticut } to the
    Southwest { From Odessa,Tx. to Midland,Tx. in 1950 }.
    Finally to Houston,her resting place.
I don't know much about Barbara Bush except she was an exceptional
Matriarch as Brit Hume explained last night on - Tucker -,
Which made sense. She was stern and watchful and also to be
taken seriously.Like a Robin.Watch a Robin build their nest and tend to
the chicks and beware any intruder.
She seemed up until a year ago very bright-eyed and aware.
Some gals when they hit their 90's look and act as if on death's door.
But like Son George Bush jr. said last night.
" My dear mother has passed on at age 92.Laura,Barbara,Jenna and I
are sad,but our souls are settled, because we know hers was. "

Worm castings not only fertilize the soil, but the worms aerate the soil as they truck along. They actually prefer poor soils, so when the soil is rich and good, they usually move along to less green pastures. :D

Agree re more acidic ph for blueberries, roses, and if you want your hydrangeas blue.

    Warren Beatty's First Film - Splendor in the Grass - { 1962 }
As Bud Stamper,High School BMOC and his sweetie-pie steady.
Bud's Old man is the Town Millionaire and very proud yet
    demanding of Bud.
Wilma Dean " Deanie " played by Natalie Wood is totally smitten
    with Bud.Because she's a " Nice Girl ".
But Bud is listening too much to his Football buddies who
like the other kind of girls.
Bud's Father explains there are 2 type of girls.
The Nice Girls and those we don't mention in the same breath.
    We all know the kind.
Wilma Dean's father is a Grocer who has a store in the
back of his Kansas City Home.
He musta said " Always drink plenty of Milk Deanie "
3 or 4 times within the movie.

I believe that wasn't the case a few years back.Monsanto was
very obstinate in controlling seeds sold. Before Mitch McConnell
saved the Family Farm with the deal he cut with Harry Reid
and the *Budget.Reid agreed to leave the Inheritance Tax exemption
alone { it was up to $ 5 million }. Reid, who controlled the Senate
had a bill that brought that limit down to just $ 1 Million.
So If you had a Family Farm worth a couple million you had
to pay like 45% Inheritance tax on anything over One Million
in appraised value. That destroyed many Farms nationwide.
So if one inherited a farm after a family member died, they wouldn't
have enough money left to Farm it after paying those Inheritance taxes.
I bet you dint knowed dat.

This was in December when the Bush Tax cuts were set to expire.
    * I forget what year.

Thinking about the "ideal girl" is okay, But if you ever actually acquire her it's time to run like hell.
Have you seen the film "Pet"? :)
