There are many people who hold the view that the Federal Reserve controls the economy. While this might appear to be true, it's really the economy that controls the Fed.

However when Carter was President we had long gas lines and
double digit interest rates called Stagflation.
Therefore the Economy sucked major league under Carter. But
    CD's were hot.

The Fed controls as much as possible via the use or tendency of borrowed
money.By tinkering with the Prime and Overnight loan rate.
That is the money available to member banks for it's use in banking.
Alan Ginsberg was a master at Prime rate tinkering or as Bob Woodward
wrote - Maestro - in a nice book on the subject, that I read.
Ginsberg spent his days analyzing Inventories of big companies
in order to determine what kind of stuff is selling and how fast.
If Companies inventories are dwindling, then that means business
is good and there will be a need to borrow more money in order to
    stock up to current levels.

Greenspan is not thought of quite so highly, these days. He isn't much of a poet, either.

It was his policies which both fed the tech bubble and led to its rapid collapse. His policies helped to create the housing bubble; along with commodity and bond bubbles. His only real accomplishment was in dealing with the mini stock market crash of 1987. That set the stage for his future mistakes. Jerome Powell is doing a great job, right now.

It was Paul Volker who pulled us out of the morass during Carter's term.

I knew I got his name wrong.I was in a hurry this morning and
was behind schedule.I kept thinking I spelled Ginsberg wrong.I feel kinda
silly, since I mentioned Greenspan often, but not much since Obama got into
Office.I mean,Trump.Or whoever is our President.
Greenspan was a good to very good Fed chair.Much better than his
replacements.Greenspan was very solid and dependable.
I remember Greenspan addressing Obama's Stimulus Bill as
having downsides. That it would not be used very much.It wasn't in 2009.
The whole Shovel ready jobs was a Fraud.
    Enough Politics and Money.
I'd ruther talk about Movies.Or Cognac.
Chicks the most.Any chicks still here at the Bar.

I bought Weight Watchers and Campbell Soup just after bad reports, but quickly sold them both after a 10% gain. Made 33% on a biotech stock in about three weeks, again sold it. It is not an easy task to find these stocks and pick the right ones.

Almost the end of winter here, but a thin layer of ice this morning made driving to work at 5:20 an exercise in patience.

Well Lucky Man me.In my trip to the Big city and stocking up
on Wine and Groceries I went to a my favorite Thrift shop.
Noted for Used LP's DVD's and tons of comic books and stuff.
I somehow managed to notice a Paul Revere & The Raiders's LP.
It was on the outside of one stack of many stacks of LP's.
Man did I luck out.I checked it out and it seemed in good condition.
I took it home and cleaned it on my LP cleaning machine.Which is not
one of those ridiculous expensive things.I first carbon fibre brushed it off.
It was like new.I never heard this version of the group.I really enjoyed the
songs. They were True Rock N Roll.I am trying to research where and how
this Album came about. The group sounds quite a bit different than the
    California Paul Revere.But it's better.Older and more authentic.The label
is Pickwick. The inner jacket explains how this label was dedicated to
    excellence in recording.Live and Learn.
The songs really boogie and drive. The Album does not have a title.
    Just a Psychodelic cover.

Hi people. I'm not dead. Just haven't been around for a while. I got a week suspension from the Jack booted Nazi thugs @Twitter so I thought I'd stop by for a visit. I found out that you can't tell the truth about Muslim terrorism on Twitter. Weird.

Nice to see you again, PN! Ive gotta Twitter but just never got the hang of it. Feels to me like standing on my roof and hollering statements (limited to ?146 words?)

I like to follow my elected reps on FB. Took me awhile to get up the nerve to speak up under my real identity after so many years of ragging on em anonymously. My posts are marked CONSTITUENT, so you gotta figure somebody reads em -- so I try to put Smartmouth aside. LOL

Happy St Patrick's Day yall! Green beer is on Falena today, so drink up!! :alcoholic:

Just for fun, because I'd hate for posters to lose money. I am following Noodles and Company today. Looks like it lost $1.02 on Friday to close at $6.36. Thursday it traded as high as $7.60. The reason for a loss, 4th quarter earnings were released. I am seeing a small revenue increase versus 2017 last quarter, 4% sales growth, net income of zero versus a loss prior. Most importantly, they did not give lower guidance for 2019.

    For a 10% return, I need the stock to go to $7.00, for 15% I need $7.31.

Question is, how possible does that seem? Is it worth paying $636.00 plus a commission to find out? Remember this is noodles in California.

I'll let you know what I decided later. This poster also invested in GE and Newell Brands, so we could be talking about those lost thousands....

The trick sometimes is emotional detachment. Its not healthy to agonize over things we cant control. ;)

Alright People of the Strange Brews.....a lil snow they said for this morning. It came down like rain and covered everything. But what a weather forecast. A Lil snow. Didn't mention anything about sliding around in a car or whatnot. Didn't mention the birds taking cover.

Didn't mention anything about everything looking like a winter wonderland. [IMG]
