We went near small lake to see a house that was recently built. Part of the house is faced in stone the rest is stained cedar clapboard. They built a short stone wall along the street side that tied into a stone archway. Ive been saying I wanted us to build a stone arch into the backyard for a few years but let it go because we just don't have the time right now.
It ended up with me being really happy and us talking about all the things we want to accomplish over time and broccoli rabe with cavatelli for dinner.

Stone is great ain't it....when I get a chance I will post a picture of the stone in front of a place near here. They used a combo of brick and stone. It looks great.

I will admit that Stone and Homes are on my mind.Every time
a see a home with a nice stone front or especially a Fireplace,
I feel like owning it.My Father had built a Schultz Custom home
with stone. My Mom ended up selling it for peanuts after Pops died.
It had 5 bedroom and a spiral staircase.A big downstairs rec room with
bar and also a sauna and steam shower. My Mom allowed her friends
{ many from the Garden Club } talk her into selling it.It also had a huge
Barn with 2 floors. The realtor couldn't sell it and talked by mom into
breaking up the property into small one+ acre plots. That and other Family
Matters caused me to be estranged from her.And my Brothers.

We have transitioned from Berkeley to Einstein and determined that farts do not happen unless someone hears them.

I have my eye on a home with a stone veneer . Would love to get a hold of that deconstruction. Will look into it when I get this job done. The house is abandoned.

I don't think you will have much luck. It'd be like downing a brick house
for the bricks.Good Luck.Stone being much more finicky.
However much more mortar friendly.Mortar and peebles go together
    like salt & pepper.

Years ago we bought 13 acres in the middle of the woods. Its beautiful property. We cleared an area and built a small house that's off grid. We started really small and kept adding on. The first section of house was built with a gambrel roof. I cut the rafters with birdsmouth cuts all by hand. We didn't use any power tools aside from a battery screw gun and basically using a chain saw for things like plywood cuts and plywood window cutouts. We added two more rooms over the years. The interior is all tongue and groove pine and the floors are wide board tongue and groove popular that we had milled. For years I was the apprentice to the Master craftsman who has done pretty much every aspect of residential and commercial construction. At one point, I started staying two steps ahead of what we were doing and what was needed and had it ready. I finally earned the title Journeywoman lol.

We decided to use a small wood burning stove to heat the place. My project was making an area for the stove to go. Where two walls came together I used masonry board as a base. We piled rocks we found on the property and I used them to rock the walls from floor to ceiling. The floor the stove sits on is also a rounded rocked area with thicker stone. The project was fun and really rewarding. It came out beautiful and I figured out how to put stone down and additives to add to the mortar for heat, cold and expansion so none of it cracked. Its been years and no cracks. This old timer who lived near where I use to live explained it all and he was on the money with it.

We kept journals of what we did when we were there and what cool things we were seeing. One day our plan is to write a book. lol We always have these high hope plans.
    Two dreamers, dreaming on.

I think your posts are cool. I really enjoy reading them and can only imagine the work you are putting into a tear down and build. Its excellent you are salvaging things that would otherwise be discarded. I give you major credit for that as well as the effort you put into your farm.

Therefore no need for Nosy Parker's to go traipsing around in the
woods where our furry friends have things under control.
