Not a fan of chipped beef on toast, although it was often dinner at my house growing up. More a fan of this!!!

How 'bout a "When Worlds Collide" - a double-cheeseburger served on a homemade doughnut with a fried-egg sunny-side up in the center?

When I went to college, late-night dining was a little greasy-spoon place called the Broadway Diner.

They used to serve biscuits and gravy to the starving college kids - biscuits straight out of a can, the kind you buy in the refrigerated section of the supermarket. But they didn't use the good Pillsbury kind, they used the cheapest generic brand anyone could possibly find! Sausage links, sausage patties, bacon, ham, hamburger, whatever they had left-over went in the gravy, and it was $1.25 all-you-can-eat for the college kids.

Which - when you're a poor college kid living on macaroni and cheese or ramen noodles - was a hell of a deal! Especially after you just spent your last $5 on $1 pitchers of Old Milwaukee beer!! :D

That really sounds like (*)(*)(*)(*) on the shingle, Spots! Stick to your ribs kind of food.

That burger doesn't appeal to me. I won't eat the egg like that, and a donut for the bun? I wonder if Paula Dean still makes her famous burger like that, or have the food nazis made her feel too guilty by now?

Last I heard was that Paula had Type II diabetes, and was re-thinking her recipes...

Yeah, I know...she's just taken a lot of guff for her eating habits and I've been waiting for her to tell some of them to take a hike. With good old southern charm, of course.

Rock trivia -- What do Harry Nilsson, Mama Cass Elliott, and Keith Moon have in common?

Mama Cass Elliott and Keith Moon both died in the same bedroom of Harry Nilsson's townhouse in London.

You were the closest to what I had for lunch, Mary. Going-away luncheon for a co-worker, so we went to Dakota's Steakhouse and I had the prix fixe lunch that started with an arugula, hearts of palms and artichoke salad (front yard clippings), chopped steak and dessert. Gave the dessert to the honoree (white chocolate mousse) and dedicated the awful salad to Michelle Obama. Who eats that nasty stuff?

Oh yeah, and truffles... had a few on my steak and even with people telling me how expensive they are... didn't like it.

Gotta face it, I'm a pb&j kinda girl hanging with an arugula and truffles crowd. Getting in some practice for my diva trip next week.

    *holds pinkie out*

I hope this doesn't mean you will shun me, but I like arugula and hearts of palm and artichokes. :floating: The rest sounds pretty good too. But I do love a good toasted PB sandwich. YUM!

Any booze with this here luncheon?

Can't argue with you there.I grew up in a family where my old
man was a beef freak. He also loved Pork Roasts.Pops dint
like chicken at all because as a kid he saw his mom cut the heads
    of their chickens for din-din.
So My Old Man was in charge of cooking the steaks. My mom liked
her steak well done and my Dad and older brother Rare.Rare as
in purple.I like mine pink.I used to prefer Filet Mignon but we usually
had thick sirloins.Maybe a club steak or porterhouse on occasion.
Then my old man took to strip steaks.when I preferred Filet Mignon.
I now prefer Strip steaks over filet mignon.Strip steaks are grainy
in texture where a Filet are more soft and mushy.
Strip steaks should be thick. The thicker the better.Never even waste
time with a thin strip.2 " is the thinest I'd consider.I'd prefer more like
    a 3" strip.

Nah, lots of folks like that stuff. Tastes like front yard clippings to me... maybe if it didn't have stems?

What's hearts of palm gotta do with Steaks. It's like saying
watching a Jerry Lewis movie has something to do with Politics.
Now if yer talkin' how to build a barn,I'd say hearts of Palm is
    fitting discussion.I wood.

No... it was overcooked. Since it was a chopped steak, I didn't send it back, though. Would've been better a little rarer, but still woulda been a chopped steak.

They had a lil 6 oz filet on the menu for only $22. Shoulda gotta that and left the prix fixe ($18 ) to those who like yard trimmings.

You know what really chaps me about fancy restaurants? $2.75 for a glass of iced tea. Now that's downright ridiculous. You can buy a whole box of tea bags for less than that.

Yeah, they make their money on the drinks. It's ridiculous. Sorry the lunch wasn't better. :(
