    Before Trump came along media sites like CNN was tanking. Their ratings kept going down and down. Many attributed it to social media and independent news reporters going to YouTube or the like. Sure they had their ups also. But from what I can tell over all they were losing viewership.

    Then came their savior...Trump. Literally he was their savior. I say this because I doubt that they would have lasted 4 years if there had been a Hillary Presidency. And now, apparently, AT&T is going to sell CNN because they are reportedly 150 million in debt. Apparently 'Orange Man Bad' was just barely keeping them going.

    So, what is the media going to do without "Orange Man Bad"? How much longer do you think that they will last?

    Get a bunch of govt money from the Biden admin to dump into lawfare to bankrupt alt media and rebolster their monopoly. We'll have their news or no news.

    Not sure if they'll need that money actually. I've noticed that the major news media gets their own column on YouTube now. I don't even watch any of the news channels and yet on my second column of suggested things to watch is all major news media, generally liberal news media at that with an occasional The Hill thrown in.

    We know what Fox News is going to do. They'll go from 24/7 Trump love to 24/7 Biden hate.

    IMO cable news is dying. All of the 24/7 cable news channels have an average viewing age of well over 50 with Fox having the oldest audience. I think as their audience literally dies off they are going to have to settle for the new reality of decreased viewers. They will have to either modernize or deal with lower viewership and lower revenues. The bottom line is new viewers are not all of a sudden going to start consuming cable news when there are so many alternatives.

    Just like they did in 2009. And just like MSNBC did in 2016 only from love of Obama to hatred of Trump.

    Cute that you try and single out Fox, but fact is that all the news media does that with their preferred/hated candidates. That's part of the reason that I agree with Trump in that they are fake news.

    Thats big tech being in bed with the MSM and Democrats. YouTube is pushing the MSM up while pushing alternative outlets down. It should infuriate anyone paying attention.

    I have a feeling that they're not going to be near as "fine" as you may think. If AT&T selling CNN because they're 150 million in the hole is any indicator.

    For now they are but for how long? That is the point of the article, without Trump to bash their ratings will drop meaning less advertiser dollars which means carriers will start to drop them. Since MSNBC exists the market cannot support two outlets doing the same thing without Trump to bash. This would dramatically lower their sell value.

    OK, so now we are getting an upswing of the self pity threads. To be fair, most of the election threads are self pity threads too, but with a slightly different perspective. An inflated sense of victimhood has always been foundational to Trumpism, so I guess it is hardly surprising that they grasp desperately for it.

    Most media is going to enjoy actually reporting on grownups governing rather than the daily flurry of lies, tweets and sackings. Actually having something resembling policy to analyse and having people in their jobs long enough that it is worth learning their names will seem like a real blast from the past. So will competence. Media can get back to reporting politics rather than something akin to a 4 years train wreck.

    Fox is going to have to fend off even more unhinged media to its right, especially if Trump starts his own media company. Having dared to question the Dear Leader, Fox may discover that 24/7 attacks on Biden are not be enough. However, Rupert is a souless, amoral survivor and he is way smarter than Donnie. Hell, even his kids are smarter than Uday, Qusay & the one Donnie wants to shag. Rupert can always cut a deal with the comrades in China & start pumping out propaganda for them. Now that they don't have to pay Donnie off the comrades will have spare cash floating around.

    [IMG] ~ Trump:orange:Tube will come along to save the audience from boredom and monotony. { Look for the orange logo }
    CNN will dig up Larry King and do celebrity and psychic interviews with sponsors that sell hair loss remedies, cataract cures and erection boost pills that are "guaranteed". :aww:

    CNN is profitable now...But I have a feeling that they won't be once Trump goes into obscurity. They were tanking before Trump came along. It was Trump hatred that kept them going for so long.

    What about this thread makes it a "pity thread"? Its not complaining about anything. Its asking a question based on what has been reported about AT&T selling off CNN. That's not a coincidence. AT&T wouldn't sell off such a company unless there was a reason. It's not like AT&T couldn't sell off other assets, much more obscure assets.

    I think CNN/MSNBC should keep the same cast of character actors but change their classification from "news" to the more honest category "comedic political satire". Their stories are so obviously fake and histrionic that they are often good for a laugh. The correct classification to "political comedy" would be less confusing to their elderly viewers. Maybe they could hire some writers from The Onion. Ratings would pick up and they might attract some younger and more savvy crossover viewers from Saturday Night Live.
