Profit is what drives all of us. An employee won't go to work if no one pays him. And he will change his job, if another job promises more profit. Capitalism also works on a small scale.

Lots of Rightwingers call advocates of Scandanavian style Social Democracy “socialists”, but if that’s the case, then Scandanvia is a direct counter-example to places like Venezuela.

IMO, such programs have nothing to do with actual socialism, no more than buying insurance does. We seem to have expanded the definition of socialism. It now includes the Commons, which is financed by capitalism. But some will get free stuff with a Commons, and free stuff means socialism to those on the right. Except socialism does not use capitalism as an economic model that people use to earn their living. So, the contradiction cannot just be ignored, with any integrity.

Pure, uncorrupted socialism has never happened. neither has pure, uncorrupted capitalism. The reason for this is because humans are selfish and greedy by nature, and always want all the wealth and power for themselves. Both socialism and capitalism, without human greed corrupting them, would lead to a utopia, but that will never happen.

 

There’s no socialist Scandinavia country.
