    Sold my shotgun today.

It scared me. Its too powerful. Would blow someone's head off like a damn cannon.

I also thought I would be into turkey and rabbit hunting.

Nope, not interested. The idea of skinning a rabbit sickens me.

And all the messiness involved in cleaning a turkey also just doesn't seem worth it.

Plus, I don't really think Im the kinda of person who will enjoy killing or harming an animal, even for food. I love life.

I think I'll just stick to target shooting and plinking cans :)

Im happy with my cute little Ruger 10/22. :)

Hmnnn I was shooting a 12 gauge at the age of 10. Too powerful? To each their own I guess.
You should have tried your hand at some skeet shooting. Now that's fun.

I'm with you on the hunting. Grew up wanting to be Grizzly Adams. Hunted upland birds as a youth.
Eventually I realized un needed killing wasn't for me. Saw enough of that as a young man.

dont get me wrong, im not a vegetarian.

    i love turkey and chicken.

but i dont mind paying someone else to kill it and clean it.

though i do think i will one day go turkey hunting with my friend, just to try it.

but yeah, the shotgun scared me. i dont mind shooting it...i just dont want to own it and have it sitting in my closet.

plus shotgun slugs are almost $1 a pop. that's a good amount of money to spend for fun.

i was driving around Walmarts looking for cheap slugs. became a strange compulsion.

Got plenty of guns but don't like to kill anything. Too soft hearted.

ive killed birds before for work, when the birds were sick or injured.

but i like social mammals. they are cute.

i eat cow but not veal. i dont eat lamb.

plus .22LR is the perfect ammo for target practise and shooting cans and stuff.

they are 7 cents a bullet at Walmart. :)

You can also defend your home with a 22. It is plenty deadly.

I eat meat, just don't enjoy killing anything.

LOL, I love it when people talk about guns as a penis replacement. I think it should be asked whether they are talking about a P3AT or a Garand.

I had a good laugh because someone in my class asked our psychology professor about that exact thing why some people equate guns with phallic symbols. He said that it was projection and that was mostly likely caused by subconscious worrying over the size of their penises. Basically they were worried about having small dicks which is why they automatically associate them together. Much like people assume if you get a fast sports car you are compensating as well. I hate to break it to the small penis brigade but most people buy fast cars because......gasp......they like fast cars that look cool. If I am rich enough to afford a McClaren or a Ferarri the last thing I am worried about is which one will make people think I have a bigger penis.

I have always thought men were attracted to curvy fast cars because they like curvy fast women. LOL I know I do.

I also have a sports car that some have called a chicks car because chicks like it. I say why would I want a car that attracts men?

many people, especially men, attack other men for the size and caliber of their firearms.

and many of them accuse men who don't own firearms of being cowards, afraid and not being true men.

these poor souls equate owning a big, strong, powerful firearm with manliness, which is clearly a reflection of their own insecurities and low self esteem.

some of the most poweful and courageous men in this world don't own a gun.

some of the biggest cowards on Earth own lots of guns.

but I will tell you one thing: the .22 LR is a very cheap round and you can buy hundreds of bullets at the same price that you can buy only dozens of larger calibers.

so if you are not rich, a gun that shoots .22 LR is for you. :)

FAIL, they just think a smaller caliber does not stop a criminal but shot placement is key. A 22 to the head is often more deadly than a larger caliber. The reason? because it bounces around in the brain and causes massive damage.

no, Ive seen folks on other forums literally attack men who don't own firearms, as cowards who won't defend themselves or their families.

and Ive had other people attack smaller caliber firearms because they are too small and not strong enough.

....such comments suggest something very Freudian.

Sorry to hear this but if it is what you want then I understand. On the hunting.....everyone should know and understand how to hunt and process game and fowl. It is a valuable skill that many in this Nation do not have any knowledge in. No greater joy than sitting down at Thanksgiving dinner eating a Turkey that you harvested.

This (Hunting/Harvesting) knowledge handed down is the best prevention of hunger. Someday, a local or National disaster will prevent the trucks from backing into the local grocery store....shelves become empty and paper targets will not feed a family.

But I do understand it is not for everyone.

The problem with that is population density. If a disaster did happen, the country would be hunted out in a very short span of time. I agree that it is a good skill, I just don't know if it would be worthwhile unless you wanted to hunt dogs, cats, and other people's livestock. I could be wrong.

knowing how to dress a turkey or rabbit is only useful if you plan on living in the woods...which I don't.

No problem. Density over the age of 18 is a personal choice. If you are truly hungry, dogs or cats will be a treat. Grow a veg garden, learn to can, smoke, salt and dehydrate, store food. I have posted about this in the survival section. Excuses have zero calories or protein.

    Wait for FEMA?
