People who are focused on Trump really should read his book. It will not end all their objections to him, but he is not shy about revealing exactly how he operates.

 

There was still exaggeration there when Trump added that the entire cost was $1 billion or more if you add the carrying cost of interest. Not exactly. But still, Trump cannot distinguish between personal views of what the construction would look like and realistic views. If you put the entrance on the other side, the west side, you would have to expand the roadways to handle the traffic, not to mention place street lights at the entrance where people could turn either left or right. And there may have been other problems too that Trump did not consider when making his proposal.

 

Not "cost" - "cost over run". "Interest and carrying charges generated an estimated 700 million to 1 billion dollar cost over run."

The problems you list are minor compared to the hundreds of millions in cost over runs that occurred with this boondoggle. Trump had offered to pay for any cost over runs out of his own pocket - against the advice of his lawyers and executive advisors.

The reasons for this horrific waste of public funds are obvious, ugly, and common in government contracting.

 

That is still an exaggeration, even with the interest rates being what they were in the 1970's and early 1980's.

And I do understand what Trump is saying, which is that total interest cost would have been $1 billion on a $450 million dollar investment, assuming that all money was being borrowed.

 

Perhaps, but I doubt that either of us are experts on the magnitude of the "carrying charges" that might apply on a major project in NYC that runs 4 years over budget.

The fact that Trump offered to complete the project on time for $200 million and eat the adds reveals a great deal about Trump. The fact that the government of NYC rejected the offer reveals even more about the nature of government procurement.

can cover a lot of bases!

We are deliberately defining ourselves as seeming to be bankrupt......
some influential people want this done to break.... or at least humble unions....
some influential people want this done....... to protect the environment and decrease deforestation......
some influential people want this done.... .to preserve something that resembles an aristocracy.......

some influential people want this done.... because it is a part of what their huge salary plus bonus package is for......

people seem to get targeted for far less than that so.....
The Donald has a lot of courage to have suggested auditing the Federal Reserve.
