First, many of those things I mentioned are already in place. Hold back the kneejerk responses mate. Second, exactly what do you think these Franken-esque videos and mindless talking points do to sway "GOP representatives and senators"? They don't even sway the very few people who are climate change deniers.

It's not a knee jerk reaction, rather it's the reason why people overwhelming support legislation that doesn't happen. Namely, people's support for things in this country isn't always a 1 to 1 match for those with money who oppose them. If you don't address that truth, then all the other talk about climate change goes nowhere.

Do you really think his video is meant to do that? No. His video isn't being posted or shared by anyone who opposes Franken's views. That's true of non-reps to Congress as well as the reps to Congress. Franken's video is to keep those who already agree with climate change agreeing with it and to take action. That action may not be enough to overcome the money interests, but eventually enough action can overcome it. You don't win by changing minds, minds are hard to change and usually it requires generations to die off. You win by getting those who already agree with you to donate more time/money. That's how it works.

Once again, those things I mentioned are mostly in place already....

So what? People don't share or repost videos and only then think about them and process them. People share videos - then their friends, who often don't have the exact same views, see them...

Well if that's the purpose then its a really ineffective method, and runs contrary to the apparent intent of his statements and almost anyone sharing it.

But I really need to say one thing - you do win by changing minds. Every damned study on public opinion on gun rights and climate change show precisely that. It is so patently obvious that you win by changing minds that idk y you'd even think otherwise. Winning politically without changing minds leads to short-lived victories.

    OK.

I see lots of things everyday. Few, if any, change my mind. We all know it's easy to put videos in front of people, it's a lot harder to change minds.

How do you figure it's ineffective? Did you measure it's effectiveness?

People preach to the choir all the time.

Public opinion on gun control and climate change shows the exact opposite. Minds in this country have changed, but the ones that matter, the representatives who vote on legislation, haven't change. Or rather their votes haven't changed.

But the truth is that almost everyone has long agreed that guns shouldn't be easy to get for those who are likely to use them to harm others. Even the NRA agrees with that sentiment. Politics says something else however.

Minds are not changed by videos from liberal senators. They are changed slowly, over time, and more often the change comes from younger generations accepting realities versus older ones actually changing their minds. That's also proven time and time again. Look at what was considered conservative 70 years ago and look at it today. Look at today's conservative religious youth's acceptance of things versus their parents. That's how this country changes. Not by videos posted by Al Franken. No die hard, anti-climate change individual watches Franken's video and says, "My God, I've been wrong this whole time!" No, they discredit the source, ignore it, or counter it line by line with their own arguments. Look at this forum if you need proof of that human behavior.

Yeah, I really love his whole "I know you are but what am I" nonsense. He's just trying to grief (textbook trolling), and you know what you say about trolls: don't feed them. Just let them go find another bridge.

I have a flash for all of you that think the ocean is rising. Miami is built on reclaimed swamp ground. The ocean isn't rising, Miami is sinking.
