Only in a weird, warped alternate universe do we have a President who calls a black pro football player a "son of a bitch" on live TV in front of a campaign rally, the same year in which said President also that that some nazis (all of whom are white) "are very good people", but this is 2017, the year in which America jumped over the cliff due to a President who is nothing more than a worthless twitter-troll and a lying manipulator. But first, to the poll:

    http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=25c29805-089e-4f14-8663-ccc430142f08

I mean, how sad is this that we even have to see such polling in 2017? How would Republicans of 1981 have reacted had then-Pres. Reagan called a known personality a "son of a bitch" on live TV in front of a crowd? Can anyone here imagine him with any credibility at all as having ever done such a thing? This is not "telling it like it is". This is barroom, locker-room, uncouth, unpresidential and frankly, unamerican behavior. This is just plain old sad.

But the internals of the three core questions in the poll are interesting, because they are pretty uniform across the board:

The data-field is so large and stretches so far to the right, it takes two screenshots to get all of the data in. Here is the second screenshot of the same three questions:

70% of Californians say that President Trump's comments about "the knee" are inappropriate. Look at the age categories: uniform across the line. Even among military/vets and law enforcement, traditionally strong support groups for any Republican president, it's at 70%.

But specially about Pres. Trump calling out a football player who kneels during the national anthem a "son-of-a-bitch", it's 80%, or 4 out of 5 people, who think what he did is wildly inappropriate and again, this statistic spreads across almost all categories, EXCEPT the hardest of hard-core Republicans. Again, among military/vets and law enforcement, the statistic is very similar, at 78% and 77%, respectively. Now, you might say, California is a Blue state, they only polled the coast. Wrong. Among geographical areas and among urbanities, the statistic is also consistent.

And finally, for injecting himself into the situation in a way that is very likely against the law, namely saying that people who kneel during the national anthem should be fired, the condemnation is almost as high: 69% find it inappropriate (also 69% among military/vets and even 63% among law enforcement), but among Republicans, only 39% and among the most hard-core of them, 19%. Among Democrats, whether hard-core of not, it's 89%.

So, the poll tells us that Trump took a sports issue and turned it into a divisive red/blue issue for the specific purpose of dividing. Either that or he is diverting from the Russiagate probe, where the political noose is tightening around not only his neck, but the necks of many of his acolytes. And Trump took time to do this while North Korea is threatening to drop an H-Bomb in the Pacific and Puerto Rico has been essentially destroyed by not one, but two hurricanes.

Let history record that while these things are happening, the 45th POTUS had nothing better to do than to troll the sports leagues and call black pro athletes sons of bitches. Because let's be crystal clear here: before the NFL and Co. backlash against him started on Sunday, the only athletes who had been kneeling had been black athletes. Oh, and Puerto Rico, which he ignored until early this morning, is full of brown-skinned people. Yepp, Trump's racism and white nationalism is shining through once again. In fact, he is not even trying to cloak it anymore. And if the GOP thinks that people whose skin color is anything other than white are going to forget this come the next many election cycles, they had better think again.

It's embarassing to have such an unbelievably incompetent President who is also so unbelievably cheap and taudry and will get into the gutter for anything. And just remember, his small hands are on the nuclear codes. What a prick. G-d help us all.

I generally hate following cookie-cutter society. The reason I hate it is A: I find that people lose their willingness to think outside the box if they see a trend, and B: The cookie-cutter thought is usually wrong. I point this out, because I never got to answer these poll questions, but I'm going to answer them.

I'm going to phrase my answer firstly, by noting that these are two, separate questions. Was it okay for the President to call NFL players son of a bitches? And should he have called for them to be fired?

The easiest one to answer, as noted by the polls here is the first one: I think everyone agrees that it's uncalled for language. I understand what the President was trying to convey: It was disrespectful to the flag, to the country, etc. He could've said that without the colorful remarks.

The second one is more nuanced: To me, this isn't about race. To me, I think Donald Trump was talking as Trump Tower Donald Trump. He wasn't talking as a President, but as CEO. And if I were an Owner of an NFL team, I do feel Donald is right about the particulars of this. I don't like these protests, I don't like the way they're going about it. To me, they're not protesting racial inequality, they're protesting America itself. And that hurts. It hurts, especially because it doesn't change anything.

No one is more moved to fix racial inequality, no one is making meaningful suggestions in the area by protesting the flag that represents the
sacrifices every veteran past and present has laid down for this country. To me, the NFL protest will go down as the most meaningless political gesture in the 21st century.

Right up there with Antifa's stupid existence. If they really want to make a difference, the continued community outreach, outreach to LEO's, mayors, etc. I applaud that, I'd be for that. But if I were an owner and they did this crap, I admit: I'd be Donald. Maybe not firing them outright, but giving them a warning first: Stop bringing this kind of attention to the club.

Yet another overlong, ridiculously biased thread from this OP disguised (poorly) as numerical/statistical analysis.

For half the country, maybe much more these days, the mere fact that California believes one way is enough for us to take the other side. There have been -many- polls on this issue, with significantly differing outcomes. Interesting that instead of including any of those, you went into needless, superfluous detail on this one. Wonder why? (that's rhetorical)

    You aren't fooling anyone.

Incidentally, I don't agree with the President's statements, but in a "I'd rather have Thai than Chinese tonight" way, certainly not in a "hideous monster!" way, and I'll wager lots of people polled are at the same level of care on this issue, making your hyperbole unwarranted.

EDIT: And that the President ever said some Nazis were very good people is false. Cite the actual quote... or retract... or lose what little credibility you have remaining here after all your slanted nonsense during the 2016 election.

Any question asked of Californians, that contains the word "Trump" in it is guaranteed going get 70% negative response.

You could say "Trump wants to give all Californians a million dollars" and 70% of Californians would read just the word "Trump" and not even finish reading rest of sentence, before responding with negative answer.

Thanks for the long and well thought our response. That contributes greatly to debate.

I agree with you that for the POTUS to call someone an SOB is of course, way out of line and only and idiot of a President does something this stupid.

On your second point, I disagree with you. It's most definitely racism because Trump has a very long history of doing this stuff. Calling the Ballplayers (who at the time he said it were all black) sons of bitchs while telling their team owners (every single one but one being white) to fire them while in the same year saying that nazis are good people, is quite obviously racism.

And yes, Antifa also has some very, very stupid moments.

Thanks for taking time to think out of the box. Nice to hear from you.

11% of the population of the USA, standalone the 6th largest economy in the world, largest jobs producer in the USA, the most diverse state of all. So, hahahahaha means nothing.

Not necessarily. Your statement is based on your personal feelings, which you are more than entitled to, but they are not based on fact. And I will bring some more such facts to the table in the coming days.

A wall of text revealing two things we already knew.

The first that 70% of Californians hate Trump and are almost wholly unable to think rationally concerning Trump. And second that the poster himself tends to have exactly the same problem.

Only a moron would support Trump's behavior.

The NFL doesn't. Even the NFL coaches and owners who were Trump supporters have come out in unison against his ignorant behavior. Right now the only ones who support it are his rabid fans who represent an angry, racist, divisive America anyway.

Trump ignored the devastation caused by hurricane Maria to madly tweet about football all week-end. He's also attacking the NFL because in 1984 he tried to force them into a merger with his team (the Generals) and they crushed Trump. Trump's motive is often revenge.

Not everything is racist. geez... No one can have a productive conversation with Libs because everything is racist to them. If you call a whole group of people "racist" you alienate them. But Libs feel that if they demonize people, then it is perfectly ok to call names. Libs need psychiatric help fast. This is soooooo old. You lost the election. Please stop whining and GET OVER IT. Time will tell about the future of the NFL...

I lost the primary. I voted for Marco Rubio. I wouldn't have voted for that disgusting fraud Trump if you paid me. So yes, I lost the election. No, I won't stop whining about it. I'm sure you didn't stop objecting to Obama for 8 years. I didn't.

And I don't really care about "alienating" Trump supporters. You have commandeered the Republican Party for your own purposes. You deserve the scorn. Too bad if you don't like it. I'm a white woman and the ones who have alienated me are the Trump lovers.

Sad that the Racialists would attempt to make something race based when it clearly isn't. But the Electorate is catching on, this is the left's tell when they are out of marbles.

NFL's on life support and is producing no one to stand in front of the oncoming SJW tank column and declare not one inch further. In the name of unity? The singing of the Anthem is supposed to be the unity. We are not two opposing sides that share the commonality and love of a nation and culture that allows us to work out our differences peacefully and lawfully. We are a nation divided, with one side that seeks to overthrow that nation by blood-libeling its existence, its collective memory and its soul. The NFL, major cultural institution that the Left has had it out for for decades, hectored them into driving the sword in themselves.

    Sad!

Yeah I don't think the country is where California is, although it's pretty weird that the OP started a thread on results from one extemely blue state in regards to a national issue.
