So, all of a sudden I'm hearing news of some kind of war flaring up between the Taliban and Iran. For example: Clash between Iran and Taliban forces - 18 Iranian border posts destroyed Iran-Afghanistan Clash: Two Iranian border guards and one Taliban fighter killed | Latest | WION And in possibly related news: AQAP Leader Batarfi: Rapprochement Between Saudi Arabia And Iran Indicates Defeat Of Former; Sunnis In Yemen And Saudi Arabia Should Learn From Taliban, Wage Jihad Against "Agents Of Iran And U.S." ... Sunnis In The Arabian Peninsula Should Emulate Taliban And Wage Jihad With AQAP Addressing the Sunnis in Yemen, Batarfi asserts that the only ones who can uproot the Houthis, "the agents of Iran in Yemen," are those who are fighting so that the word of Allah will be supreme (i.e. Al-Qaeda). He urges all the Sunnis in Yemen and in Saudi Arabia to unite and wage jihad for the sake of Allah against the enemies, whether they are the agents of Iran or of the U.S. He also stresses AQAP's willingness to join the Sunnis in jihad against the Houthis and against all the enemies of the religion in Yemen and in all the lands of the Muslims. ... https://www.memri.org/jttm/aqap-lea...rabia-and-iran-indicates-defeat-former-sunnis
Yeah, more the usual for the radical Islamic world, of course. I just wonder if the Taliban are going to make life harder for Iran now. Could be beneficial to Ukraine..
Just like Ukraine, the Taliban love the money that war bring to their country war is good for business - Search (bing.com)
Talibs could set the Caucases on fire(easily)....that would be an absolute nightmare for Kremlin chimp. That entire Southern flank is a powder keg.
You're here a lot and post really weird things all the time. I just think you need to get away from the internet for a while and touch base with reality.
Basically you DID....you said Ukraine LOVES the $$$ war brings to their country...that's like asking.
All that surplus we left behind prolly burnin a hole in their pocket. It wont last long without proper maintenance tho. They'll have good fun with the Iranians shooting at eachother for awhile, then their new stuff will get full of sand and stop working and they'll be back to 1980's 1/4 ton pickups with WW2 machine guns taped on the back, and then they'll stop messing with Iran.
They have a mix of our stuff and Soviet era stuff. I wonder what kind of military support they receive. They couldn't have sustained a war against our forces there for 20 years without some imports. I imagine they've still got supply lines from somewhere.
It wasnt really a war. More of an insurgency. Doesnt take much to maintain that- guns and IEDs will do. Thats what makes insurgencies so effective. They're not very effective without support from local populace tho. And as I understand it, there arent many Iranians who would welcome the Taliban.
There are elements of the Taliban that have no interest in governing Afghanistan. They only like fighting and spilling blood. They have gone strange in the head. That's why they have turned towards fighting Iran now that America has left. I'm sure it's tempting to hope they save everyone a lot of problems by losing their lives by throwing themselves at the defenses of Iran. But that won't solve anything, it's far too simple. Still, it's nice to imagine that one day the last ones left alive will be the civilized people who didn't fight.
I heard about this recently and it was described as the result of a dispute over access to or more control over a water resource that was on their border that I think was a river (or a lake). I'd say don't get into fantasies that they are just blood seeking animals who are now going to take each other out for the benefit of us. It is a more real logical dispute that won't bring them over the edge.
Leaked documents show Iran planning new phase of attacks against US troops in Syria: report Julia Mueller Thu, June 1, 2023 at 9:37 AM CDT Newly revealed leaked documents reveal Iran could be readying for new attacks against U.S. troops in Syria, according to a new Washington Post report. The Post reports Iran is arming militants in Syria and building and training forces to use bombs specifically intended to target U.S. military vehicles — and to kill U.S. personnel. The escalatory move could risk U.S. lives in the region and prompt a more direct military confrontation with Tehran, according to the report. ... https://news.yahoo.com/leaked-documents-show-iran-planning-143713956.html An armed conflict between the Taliban and Iran could be useful if Iran is ratcheting up attacks and support for anti-US militants in Syria.. Also, with Muscovy and Iran being so tight these days, it's hard not to think of this as an indirect attack on us by the midget and his regime.
That part of Iran has a lot of Sunnis. Deobandi Sunnis, same as Taliban Sunnis and Shiites have fought each other for as long as Islam has existed.
Diminishing flows on the Helmand River (i think) is the proximate cause, but the Taliban & Iran (and Afghanistan & Iran more broadly) have history. Water has been contentious for generations, with Afghan dams periodically causing tensions. The declining flows of the Helmand river resulting from environmental changes have made the issue even more pressing. The terrible treatment of Shia muslims by the Taliban was a source of tension when the Taliban last was in power. Their execution of a group of Iranian diplomants in the late 90s almost precipitated a full scale war. This probably won't get that far, but it will keep a couple of nasty regimes pre-occupied for a while.
99.999% of Muslim Arabs are killed by OTHER Muslims. Shia kill Sunni, Sunni kill Shia, and so on... Now the party enters Iran
I don't know what the actual percentage is, but I expect it's the same for Christians and other groups. So it goes when a society is predominantly one or the other. The ways Muslims are warring with each other today reminds me of Christians butchering each other in Europe throughout the Middle Ages. It was partially, but not entirely the reason for all the warring and killing. It was used to justify fundamentally immoral acts. It was a way for old power-hungry men to get a bunch of young men to go kill each other. And so on. The God of Abraham has to be the bloodiest god ever to have not existed.
