http://news.yahoo.com/rescued-hiker...leaving-state-park--police-say-145728543.html Wow. They get rescued by the ranger, dropped off in the parking lot only to drive their van down the boat launch into the water and drown. Don't mean to be disrespectful of the dead, but I have to wonder if drugs were involved... Sad story nonetheless.
May their souls rest in peace. May whatever god they believe in look after their souls. That does really suck.
Stuff like this makes me realize that trying to search for meaning in life is a non-sequitur endevour.
We have training in the services in escaping from submerged aircraft. First rule is not to panic, you have to wait until the cabin fills with water to equalize the pressure so an exit through a door is possible...if no other exit option exists prior to the cabin filling up. We also carry specialized knives for cutting seatbelts and breaking windows, if no exit door is available... Panic is what kills most people in those situations... Once out of the vehicle, follow your air bubbles to determine which way is up to the surface as vertigo is a common occurrence once submerged. Keep thinking...that's what keep you alive.
There was a horrible holiday incident last week where two British fishermen were killed near a Russian river when the helicopter that dropped them off rolled over on takeoff and chopped them up! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23396819
