It's the inherent paradox...or "time-bomb" in Tea Partyism. "Remain true" to it....your political career is soon over as you lose moderates and independents. Break from TP dogma....they label you a "traitor" and pull THEIR support and your political career is soon over.
Especially when you bought the dog deliberately seeking out one WITH fleas in the hope they'd jump on your neighbor's dog.
