So let me gets this straight, who is going to pay for it? Hell we are so stupid we have not upgraded our grid from a solar flare or EMP, do you know how close we came a few years ago?

And we knew it since the 1980s with the solar flare that hit earth on the east coast..

To say charging up all these batterys at night will be minor is a ridiculous statement

and how exactly is the subsidy tied to the stock price? read their balance sheet and get back to me when you have a clearer picture.

$7 billion in revenue and apparently some people think nobody wants what they are selling.

Right. And to fund that transformation, who do you think will be paying for it? The converted diesel market?

Of course, the vulnerability of the grid, and the impact on the economy should a major collapse of it grind transportation to a halt is a whole other conversation.

Right now there is only talk about removing the subsidy, when it actually happens it will drop a whole lot more. Besides they're doomed anyway. Lithium Ion batteries rely on Cobalt for production, a precious mineral that is depleting quickly due to the demand from hand held devices like smart phones. Cobalt is the new petroleum.....limited source.

    Here's why.......

You clearly don't know financials. G&A is not research, infrastructure, capital investment. G&A are expenses not directly associated to the product, its bureaucracy, its stuff that does not add to profitability.

You can dance and spin all day it does not change the financials. Look at the share price over the past week, the market clearly believes the govt subsidy is critical to keeping TSLA alive. TSLA is a disaster, its a total gamble.

You equate intelligent skepticism of a company clearly built on a financial house of cards with opposing innovation? You have just lost your argument.

By the way, emotion should never be a part of investing, it leads to bad results.

You mean make it and you will come. Tesla already has over 455,000 reservations (including my brother) for the Tesla Model 3. Looks like they already came.

Me? I want an EV that will do 200-250 miles per charge, cost $25G's before rebates/tax incentives and be sold for at least a small profit to the manufacturers. That's when I think EV's can really appeal to the masses.
Unfortunately, that is (apparently) COMPLETELY out of the question with current battery technology.

    Sales:
    Toyota: 4,730,515 - 2015 and 2016 only
    Tesla: 200,182 - 2015 to 3Q 2017

Reservations aren't sales. He could end getting stuck with an expensive lawn ornament if they go under.

When each one comes with (I believe) is a $1,000 downpayment (as my brother had to give), it might as well be. The hype over this car is MASSIVE.

I am not getting into some silly debate with you on this.

You said make your ridiculous idea of an EV and buyers will come. You said nothing of in what quantities - then you put up some silly comparison with Toyota. And I proved buyers already have 'come' (plus the sales Tesla already has made)...you did not say how many buyers - just 'buyers'.

    You don't agree - I don't much care.

And, for the record, I have long said that I think Tesla is doomed and is only being propped up by an over-inflated stock price. Unless they come up with a cheaper battery for their EV's, they will eventually fail (assuming the government does not bail them out).

We are done here...you are not interested in open-minded debate. You have a hate on for Tesla or EV's or whatever. Waste someone else's time with it. I have better things to do.

    Good day.

In 2000 I bought the latest and greatest mass storage device for my computer. It was called the Orb Drive and had twice the capacity of the Zip Disk drives. All the computer magazines raved about the advanced technology. I bought one and stored hundreds of hours of work on it. A year and a half later it started with the click of death. When I tried to contact the company, they had already gone out of business. There was no way to retrieve my data, I was left with a white elephant. I just lost my work and about $125. If Tesla goes under........good luck.

    Oh then there's this..........

    Somewhat true.

    https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/01/no-cobalt-no-tesla/

Also, there is some possible substitution ideas for the future (that unfortunately haven't panned out yet..)

Unless the cost of the batteries can be dramatically reduced, EVs will remain a minor market.
