Is the moon not a source of light?

By source, you mean it generates it's own light? The obvious answer is.. NO.

So, is this intended as a reflection of Christians?

Or is this intended as a reflection of the basic intelligence of the people of Waco?

Ever since the DEA raid and so forth, I have been seriously suspicious of the ground water there. I would never go there myself.

It's difficult to determine from the story what these people objected to specifically. One could infer from this article that these people actually think the moon is an actual source of light and not merely a reflector of the sun's light. If that's the case, I would say these people are obviously ignorant. What I suspect angered these people is that their religion was being insulted. I think they know that Bill Nye's science is correct on the specific point (the moon being a reflector of sun light). They just don't like him saying the bible is mistaken and if you ask these people about that passage, they will probably say he's not interpreting it right.

Well, I guess if America returns to the Moon, the first guys after Apollo-17 to step foot on it...

    won't be Texans.

Naturally, if the Religious Right get their way and our national education system becomes like the one generating folks like those in Texas....the next nation on the Moon won't be the US at all. We'll be looking up at it, saying "The light and heat generated by the Moon will surely kill them godless Chinese!" and tuning in to the Fox Ecumenical News Network to wait to hear of their demise.

1 The typical cop-out for a logical notation of a Biblical contradiction.

    2. If you want to believe that plants were created before the Sun and somehow survived, that's fine....just don't teach it as "science" in my kid's public school.

    Not of Christians in general.

Just the self-appointed "guardians of our morals" Christians (who actually are anti-Christian according to the teachings of Christ) who wish to put their beliefs into laws and our science classes.

Is one an atheist because they know the moon reflects the sun's light?

That someone sees the factual explanation of verified and easily proven science as someone else being a "dick"....truly shows the mentality that this thread is discussing.

I hope you have no children.

I will never understand why Christians are offended when their book is quoted verbatim.

    Why is this?

Digging all the way back to 2006 for content.

    Some life, eh...

    Anyway... there was no booing.

    oops.

Interview with the original reporter (yes, of the incident way back in 2006).

    http://www.examiner.com/article/reporter-of-bill-nye-moonbat-story-speaks

"There was some mischaracterization of what happened," Woods says. It seemed like the story was always construed in such a way to make his hometown look like backwoods idiots. "The one that always floors me is they say, oh, he was booed. No, he wasn’t booed. I've gone back through the story, and nowhere does it say he was booed."

That one shocked us. We had read his story, yet still interpreted it as "booing". After re-reading his story, we realized we had taken the title of the original post (or, rather, repost of a post), and it had colored my reading of Woods' reporting. He says some people left -- more than one -- and his impression, and the impression of a lot of people there, was that it was over Nye's comment about the moon.

"Would you describe it as a huff?" we asked.

    "No," Woods says

Yeah right, yet another non sequitor response.

You got that right. These people were improperly educated, and so poorly, that they cannot distinguish some simple science from the Bible, and these posters, try to make into a constitutional issue.

It's really a reflection of nothing whatsoever.

It's a 7 year old story, no one "booed" Nye, a woman took offense at Nye claiming contradictions in the Bible, she left and took her 3 children. Yawn.

(Links posted a couple minutes ago in my previous comment).

Because it is the wrong forum and in bad taste. Nye was being a dick.

Some atheists are just dicks. They are like some vegans. It has nothing to do with religion or animals. Its just little people with low self esteem trying to find some way to think that they are better than everyone else.

Bill Nye is one of these little people.

Nye pointed out logic, fact, and science....something those Texans couldn't handle. And you, being a rightwinger, don't care for them either.

We know where it leads...to them saying "You're violating my religious liberty, by not allowing 'Creation Science' to be taught in public schools"....and thus exposing our children to the IDIOCY of believing the Moon "produces light"....or that plants were created before the Sun...or that the stars are only 10,000 years old.

And these are the same people who claim we must live in fear of Islamic Sharia Law taking over our country.

Nye took part in a faked experiment for Al Gore. He doesn't give two (*)(*)(*)(*)s about science.

The CO2 experiment, Bill Nye's side by side thermometers show the temperature rise in the CO2 environment.

Too bad its a photoshop of the same thermometer.

    The guy is a joke.

BTW a 4 year old blog about a 7 year old event posted in the current events section?

Do we have any standards anymore?
