Guns have been ubiquitous in this country since the first European settlers stepped foot on our shores 400 years ago, but this problem didn't emerge until relatively recently. Why is that? Could Daniel Patrick Moynihan been on to something when he warned his fellow Democrats about the unintended consequences of some of the social programs they were enacting in the mid-1960s?
