1st whos buying Chinese stuff? who shift the manufacture to china, Now to india/Vietnam? do you buy iphone? or PC etc
2nd even if we don't open up, that slack will just take over by Europe/japan/or other place.
3rd Russia or former USSR didn't trade with US, but they still has formidable military.

its not the US policy its the corporation they want to maximize the profit. and been capitalist we can't say the corp can't do business in china but can do it in Vietnam/india. the corporation decide where they want their stuff manufactured, the US government don't control them.

    And they still are.

There are 2 levels of Chinese exports. First you have the general commercial goods. These are companies like COSCO and the like. Cheap inexpensive products, which are no better or worse then what is made anywhere else, just cheaper. Then you have the various knock-offs. These are by companies that sound like a major US one, but are of a far lesser quality. Just look at your local Harbor Freight to see an example of this. Good for the homeowner that wants to use their tools occasionally, but will crap out of a pro tries to use them regularly.

Then you have the Prestiege Brands. And at the top of this list is probably Apple. But here you are confusing who makes the device, and who assembles the device. In these instances, China "makes" nothing, Apple makes it. It is their idea, their software and hardware, China simply puts it all together for them to their specifications. And such construction went to China because of cost, nothing else.

And there are many companies waiting in the wings to replace China if it has another meltdown.

So yes, China is still dependent on the US. Not only for the raw materials to make their devices (China is now the largest importer of raw materials on the planet), but for the very designs they use to make them. Pull out the US and it's resources, and China is back to where it was 30 years ago, making cheap knockoffs of cheap Japanese goods.

Over the last few years, many have floated offering many of these companies a "Monitary Repatriation Waiver", where money brought back to the US from overseas affiliates would not be taxed so long as it was used to restart manufacturing in the US. And if this was ever passed, I bet that the blow to the Chinese economy would be crippling. A lot of companies are not stuck in China, because the money they have invested and made there could never be brought home without suffering a huge tax blow. But give them an option, and I bet many would jump at it.

Heck, that was happening just over 100 years ago.

Just under 105 years ago, Jack Daniels died of an infection after he broke his toe kicking a safe.
