Well you nor I was living when it happened. It certainly was to a group of men led by Booth.

Had Abe never invaded, he would have survived two terms in office.

I did not bring up blacks nor slavery.
If you approved the revolutionary war, you understood why it happened.
When men can no longer tolerate a form of Government, they retain the right to form a Government they do want.

I look at other areas. Canada for instance or Mexico. Canada is fortunate our founders did not steal or by arms remove part of Canada and make them be part of the USA. Mexico did lose a huge amount of land to them.
So please do not present our own Government as this honorable thing when what it did not pillage it bought.

Do you seriously think that secession wasn't a factor in this civil war???

Did you fail to read my post where I agreed that Lincoln was not particularly motivated by emancipation?

Do you seriously think that a secessionist government founded on slavery is legitimate?

I do not even slightly agree that there is a fear campaign by anyone.

YOU are the one being fearful.

    So, explain your fear.

No, Death Valley is not a "leading indicator".

The issues with the Antarctic is more complex than that, but as I pointed out there is nobody living there.

I believe that Death Valley is the gold standard of high temperatures.
Who lives in the Arctic or Antarctic is not relative to this discussion.
The Antarctic gathers Snow and ice and even you do not dispute that fact.

So you welcome a warming climate?

Frankly Washington, Jefferson and the others founded one on slavery.
Abe could have left the South alone. They were not trying to make the north have slavery.

I am saying secession should never cause humans to take up arms to kill each other due to one of the two sides making demands on the other side.
If the South demanded the north have slavery and invaded MD or NY State, then they would have been completely wrong to do that.

The distribution of heat on Earth is NOT determined or indicated by Death Valley. And, there is NO REASON to believe that it is an indicator of Earth's average temperature.

The point with Antarctica is that it isn't an issue such as with agriculture or population AND once again it is not an indicator of the average temperature of Earth.

The Antarctic is more complex than many places as there are circumpolar winds and other effects that keep it relatively isolated from the rest of Earth.

Also, there is a difference between sea ice extent and other possible indicators of continental temperature.

One thing is for sure - Antarctic ice is NOT a surrogate for Earth's average temperature.

You can read more about it if you are actually interested.

The average loss of Antarctic ice since 2002 is 149 gigatons per year.

What is the actual percentage of all gigatons lost per year?
Such as .000001 gigatons per year more?

Also that does not address the entire continent.

For instance, some may lose a hell of a lot more. Some may gain a hell of a lot back.

    I found this.
    Is ice in Antarctica growing?

This changing sea ice extent is cited by the IPCC as an indicator of a warming world. However, sea ice extent is growing in Antarctica [1]. In fact, it's recently broken a record for maximum extent.Jun 2, 2021

Hell, I checked the worlds deserts.
Can you name any that are getting hotter?

The Antarctic seems to be gaining ice.

When some talk of global climate, they home in on places like CA and use that as a point.
If Death Valley is not a point, then they are wrong to use our forests as a point.

That is the average yearly loss of Antarctic ice.

    Antarctica.

It is NOT the seasonal loss that may be gained back the next year. It is the yearly loss.

Well, you have to be smart about identifying the difference between the truth and the con.

My personal view is that one is usually much better off if one listens to science.

    ???
The issue isn't deserts. The issue is Earth.

And, the impact on humans is going to be in places like coastlines, agricultural regions, population centers, etc.

People point to forests, because that is one of the ways carbon is taken out of the atmosphere. So, forest loss is a problem - and forest gain would be an opportunity if there were places and money to add trees.

If you are going to cite something, you have to identify who you are citing. Plus, it would be best to give some indication of how to find your source.

On the contrary, in a field as new and uncertainly grounded as climate science, worldwide political bias is not only possible, it is present.

As it would be if you would do it.

Besides that, in my experience on this topic, the first thing the alarmists do is attack the source. First thing they think of is to attack sources, that they said they wanted.

I pulled it when this site was sought.

When I received my pilots license in 1980, nobody was even discussing global climate.
I got wind of this when Clinton was president thanks to Al Gore and his nutty claims.

Sorry, but I disagree front to back.
Lincoln initially avoided naming abolition of slavery as a war aim in order to keep the border (slave) states in the Union. In this he succeeded, to the great advantage of the Union cause.
This had nothing to do with southern determination to protect slavery: the cause of the war.
Later in the war, after the allegiance of the border states was no longer in question, Lincoln made abolition a war aim.

I think I found the article that carried this picture:

    http://www.antarcticglaciers.org/glaciers-and-climate/changing-antarctica/antarctic-sea-ice/

You really should read that article. It points out multiple ways in which warming conditions can cause greater sea ice extent. It also points out that the extent of sea ice is highly dependent on season.

In the USA, one can noted that the winds over the great lakes drop snow on the downwind, eastern, side. When the air temperatures are warmer, more water is carried, thus the snowfall on the "lake effect" side is significantly higher.

This happens in the Antarctic, too.

Also, meltwater is fresh water, which is easier to freeze. Thus melting can cause greater sea ice extent than would otherwise be the case.

    Other factors are also involved.

Overall, there is a continuing loss of Antarctic ice.
