In the hopes that he would appear transparent, Trump threw himself on the mercy of the court, so to speak, and released both a transcript of the July 25th phone call to President Zelensky of Ukraine and the whistleblower complaint, although the latter is still classified and cannot be released to the public. However, the transcript alone is proof the President violated the Constitution and federal law by asking a foreign power to intervene in our election on his behalf.

Keep in mind, Trump stopped a military aid package to Ukraine five days before this phone call, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff told reporters, "There is no quid pro quo necessary to betray your country or your oath of office. Even though many read this as a quid pro quo. I'm not concerned whether it is a quid pro quo or not. Ukraine understood what this President wanted."

That said, while Trump didn't come out and say, "I'm bribing you," clearly there was quid pro quo.

Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine is ready to buy more Javelin missiles from the US. Trump responded by saying, "I would like you to do us a favor."

"The United States has been very very good to Ukraine. I wouldn't say that it's reciprocal necessarily because things are happening that are not good but the United States has been very, very good to Ukraine," Trump said.

Of course, Zelensky agreed, and told Trump the US is a "much bigger partner" to Ukraine than other European countries. Zelensky has agreed to everything Trump has said during this episode. The very last thing the Ukrainian president wants to do is anger Trump. Trump holds the key to the defense of his country from the ongoing Russian aggression.

Trump had no qualms about using that leverage.

Trump then proceeded to pressure Zelensky for cooperation with his political agenda, urging him to start corruption investigations while stressing the United States’ role in military assistance for Kiev.

Trump rambled on about the 2016 elections, something about a server called Crowdstrike, Robert Mueller, and the former ambassador from the United States, "the woman," Trump said. Finally, he got down to hard cases. "The other thing, There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it... It sounds horrible to me," Trump said.

In addition, Trump urged Zelensky to work with Attorney General William P. Barr on potential corruption investigations connected to former Vice President Biden, his son, Hunter, and an unsubstantiated theory about stolen Democratic emails in 2016.

"Trump’s suggestion that American law enforcement be directly involved and in contact with Ukraine’s government marks the first evidence that the president personally sought to harness the power of the United States government to further a politically motivated investigation," the New York Times.

They don't need to. The mere ASK is a gross abuse of power.

The fact that the quid pro quo is right there in the transcript only makes it worse

I was referring to Fusion GPS

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/25/us/politics/steele-dossier-trump-expained.html

    "
    Who paid for it?
During the Republican primaries, a research firm called Fusion GPS was hired by The Washington Free Beacon, a conservative website, to unearth potentially damaging information about Mr. Trump. The Free Beacon — which was funded by a major donor supporting Mr. Trump’s rival for the party’s nomination, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida — told Fusion GPS to stop doing research on Mr. Trump in May 2016, as Mr. Trump was clinching the Republican nomination.

No asking Ukrainians to investigate possible corruption is just fine.

Quid pro quo is not "right there" correlation is not causation. You have to prove the intent to swap favors.
If this shows anything it shows the Ukrainian trying to butter Trump up..

Nah it can be excused away as investigating a crime...... And I'll bet that's how Republican Senators view it so this changes nothing

Apparently we need to make it illegal to hire corporations to make up fake allegations about political candidates.

Point blank Democrats are the bad guys.
    Deatheaters, Klingons, The First Order,
    Fighting for control and domination.
Care about individual freedom better vote Republican or independent..

Sorry that's just where politics in America is right now..
Plain ans simple good vs bad.
Or at least better vs bad.

That's what I thought, but as you helpfully noted, the GOP involvement was over well before the Hillary campaign contracted with Fusion GPS, which then hired Brit Christopher Steele who sourced his dossier from Russian sources.

    That's the foreign connection.

Just seems strange that here we know Hilary paid Fusion GPS but she used an intermediary the DNC so by the letter of the law she's fine. Whereas in Trump's phonecall there was no explicit threat but people what to say he's guilty because of intent

The tRUMPers seem to be really concerned. They are trying to deflect this on Biden.

If this was about Biden, why wasn't our own investigators in our country doing an investigation? Especially with R's in control.

That is likely true but one first must have evidence that a crime has occurred then prove who committed that crime. Just because one or more people of a groupnorva race commit a crime are all members of that group guilty. Hardly so.

it's called opposition research and republicans hired them first, not sure why they went with foreign outsourcing

    does anyone hire Americans anymore?

but hiring a foreign company is not like asking a foreign government for a favor to help you beat your political rival

never said it wasn't, the republicans hired them to start the investigation, then when they stopped paying they asked the other side if they wanted the information they had been collecting

nothing illegal was done by republicans or dems there as this was a company, not the government

this call was about funds Ukraine wanted from the USA, after thanking Trump for the support, Trump says.... but I want you to do me a favor

intent is that it's his political rival... common sense

President Zelensky " I would also·like to thank you·for.your great support in the area of defense."

Trump "I would like you to do us a favor though"
