I love the ones who keep proclaiming “ The climate is changing because it always has”. I point out that climate, like underpants, does not change by itself. I keep imagining what these people underwear looks like!:p

The problem isn't just the warming of the planet, it's the RATE at which it is warming.

Ignoring times when large meteors/asteroids have hit the planet there has never been a rise in temperature this rapid.

The problem is that people do not understand the difference between climate change and global warming.

Why don't you explain both it and why it matters so much.

That's how I know I'm right. Decades of dealing with idiots who just get nastier if you don't buy the hype they're selling. It's a variant of the guy arguing from his mother's basement because he's never experienced reality on his own.

Keep it up, you're doing just fine.

"How long is a peice of string?"

That's easy. Same answer as how long is an extension cord.

It is six inches* too short.

    *about fifteen centimeters. :)

I'm not a scientist. I don't have to be a scientists to answer certain questions on this topic. Neither do you.

But in the end, you're just guessing at what's normal based on some things you've read.

So there's nothing there to justify your anger.

If you want to present a conspiracy theory that could possibly corrupt the vast majority of climate related scientists from around the entire world, then CITE some EVIDENCE.

It's not anger that makes me oppose the notion that anyone who disagrees with science can just claim some unsupportable conspiracy theory with zero evidence.

Science is important to our decision making process. It's the sole attempt to dispassionately understand how this physical universe works. Its methods are design to be as protected as possible from corruption.

If you know of practical ways to improve that protection, great. This is an important topic.

If you have evidence of failure in some regard, fine. There is a constant effort in this regard.

I have done - several times.
    Climate change
The earth moves round the sun and spins on its axis thus presenting the sun to certain parts of the earth at certain times of each day of the year. Various other factors - movement of the centre of the earth, gravitational effects of the moon and other external bodies cause the earth to 'wobble' - and in one case 'double wobble' on its axis at various times over many years, causing the sun's rays to concentrate in another part of the globe. So the climate of areas of the earth can vary during these 'wobbles' but the average temperature of the globe remains the same. The warmer area is now cooler and vice versa. The globe does not heat up.

Global warming is where the suns rays penetrate the atmosphere, including the 'greenhouse' roof, and heat the earth. The excess heat - which would normally disperse back into space - cannot escape to any real degree because of the greenhouse roof, and the globe heats up.

Its really far more complicated than that.

Right. The same nonsense I've been hearing for years.

Nothing new about that. And it's totally irrelevant for all practical purposes.

There are lots of things you've heard for years - evolution, relativity theory, etc.

Frankly, having the message that is supported by major continuing examination by experts over the entire planet would seem more likely to be supportive.

Certainly more so than if the message were changing!

Of course it doesn't change. Much too lucrative for those without any other useful, practical skills.

What part is “nonsense”? Are you denying that Milankovitch cycles are real?

Hmmm I wonder which one is more likely. Funny thing is I have never seen a climate scientist driving a Mercedes

    This is more hand waving.

If you have evidence of a conspiracy along those lines then ...

    ... CITE IT.

No, the idea that the difference between global warming and climate change is somehow meaningful.

The oil companies at least do useful work that's benefitted humanity greatly for the last 150 years.

    Climate Scientists don't deserve Mercedes.

What else is expertise in climate science good for? What's the benefit to society?

Other than allowing politicians to shutdown economic growth and destroy the lives of those that aren't already wealthy enough to fly private jets to Davos while demanding an end to good old fashioned things like a decent, cheap used car to go to work?

Ooooh oooh! Show me a climate scientist whose work benefits humanity enough to have that kind of income.
