"Wondering" is good when it leads to discovery. What I'm wondering is what that has to do with what I wrote.

I see no problem in an anti-drilling crusade, given that oil companies have over 6 thousand drilling permits that remain unused. They can start drilling whenever the hell they want. They haven't. So whether you agree with them or not, these "crusades" aren't a problem because there aren't any useful projects.

I think the whole bio point is becoming too broad.. Production would certainly be of plants most productive..

Communists? Now there's a blast from the past. Closest this country has come to communism having any relevance at all lately was Trump and his favorite "ally" North Korea... Or maybe his daughter's businesses in Communist China...

Yeah, record low employments - particularly for women and POC, great job growth, a V-shaped recession and recover, four years with inflation under 2%, only trillion dollar deficit caused by fighting COVID - wh at a horrible economy! Did I mention Trump recovered more jobs from the COVID recession bottom to the day Biden took over than Biden did in his first year?

Why is our government run on both sides by people who have but a casual acquaintance with truth?

Surgical and cloth masks aren't good protection against the smaller wildfire particles. N95s may get most of it and maybe that's good enough. They aren't very effective at stopping people from getting covid.

I have some advice for wiping-up-the-ratings-rear CNN: tell the truth. Find answers and go light on video of dissembling pols. I'd rather see 30 min. of truth about masks than hear what some pol says about them. Or what people say about masks.

Yes, in practice, biofuel sources must be fast growing, easily harvested using existing technologies and infrastructure, and grown close to efficient transportation infrastructure, especially railroads or navigable waters. Having local access to co-product markets is also important. That’s why in the US we are focused on commodity grains. Because we have the infrastructure all in place already to deal with transportation and handling the feedstock and the product and co-products. South America historically has infrastructure in place to handle crops like sugar cane so are more efficient than us at using that crop.

One aspect of corn production that hurts EROI is the need for large amounts of nitrogen fertilizer, the production of which uses vast quantities of fossil energy, usually natural gas. At some point in the future (we are close) we will genetically engineer corn to have symbiotic relationships with nitrogen fixing microorganisms similar to legume crops like soybeans. This will dramatically increase the EROI of corn ethanol. And if we can do it with corn we can also do it with cellulosic ethanol crops like switchgrass, drastically increasing it’s already high EROI.

But will we? What will motivate companies to work towards renewable biofuels if the market is artificially disrupted with EV mandates etc.? Will we be left with just dependence on an electric grid and supply that doesn’t exist to support EVs when instead the market could supply diversity of options that spread risk and better serve a majority of consumers? And support more aggregate producers of energy instead of a few large energy companies?

Hold on. I hope you're talking about Biden or Obama or... anybody other than Trump. Because Trump didn't pass any bills, other than tax cuts for the rich, which accounts for nothing of what you mention. You can't claim any accomplishments if you didn't DO anything to accomplish things.

For an expert on learning, you sure blather a lot of false information. Presidents don't pass bills; that's the duty of the Legislative Branch. I'm sure you're not claiming that Congress only passed one bill during Trump's four years. Second treasury data showed Trump's tax cuts benefited nearly 95% of those that ACTUALLY PAY tax. I'm sure you realize that the size of the benefit depended on the amount the individual paid since it was based on a percentage reduction of taxes due.

Be nice if, just once, you actually did that "due diligence" you brag about, rather than spew cliched LW talking points.

Who cares how many permits they have?
Why the push to stop them from drilling?

I don’t think we should count on the US government that killed (hundreds of) thousands with bad mask advice during Covid to get it right on this one. It’s unfortunate our public health bureaucracies care so little about public health.

Oh, please. Economic growth in Trump's first three years was almost identical to Obama's last three years.

    upload_2023-6-10_12-37-16.jpeg

    Unemployment continued down under Trump.

I can only imagine where you got your information about the economy.

Apparently we need to establish common terminology before we can communicate effectively. Do you consider the collection and processing of fossil fuels 'production' or not?

I get it mostly from CBO and BLS. Sometimes Treasury. Great job of using long time scale to reduce vertical changes. ironically Obama's last three years just happen to skip his four years of trillion dollar+ deficits - nice move. So let's take a look at the market of 2016. See if you can guess when Trump won:

I don't know how many people were negatively impacted, but there are people who got sick because they were misled.

We were recovering from the Bush Recession.

I guess the point I'd make is that we've gone a long stretch of Presidents who failed to get Congress to encourage good economic growth policies.

Your graph highlights inflating asset values.

Not really it just changes names. I call a spade a spade.
You soured people on actual environmentalism by hijacking it to promote authoritarianism.

Yes, it certainly is, isn't it!? Let's see what I can discover out of your OP.
Pay no attention to me aboot this by the way, I'm just feeling a little feisty is all.

    Title: The Dangers of Oil

note - you really should capitalize the title properly, were you not a high school teacher? And physics was it? I had an excellent high school physics teacher, well, sort of. He was actually kind of a dick sometimes too.

And we get to the first sentence of the OP,

Northern states are feeling the effects of Climate Change.

Ok, yes, and they are having success with wineries in England.
Leslie Stahl did a nice show aboot it for 60 minutes.
    Maybe you saw it?

And then what do we have next?

An increase in forest fires were predicted decades ago.
    Increase in droughts,
    in hurricane activity
    floods

we are now seeing what was predicted a long time ago

Except, back then, it was preventable.

    Not anymore

All we can do now is try to not make it worse for the younger generation and mitigate as we can.

This seems a bit incredible to me, as in not credible.
You have actually asserted more or less that there were never fires, droughts, hurricanes or floods before humans caused them by releasing trace amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere.
That by virtue of releasing CO2 into the atmosphere from the multi-million year old dead organic reserves found on Earth, humans have caused these events.
This seems beyond ridiculous to me, but apparently you believe it, really?
Krakatoa was not caused by exploitation of organic reserves.
The 1871 Great Chicago Fire wasn't either.
The Johnstown Flood was apparently predicated upon human influence after the catastrophic failure of the South Fork Dam, nothing to do with oil and gas.
The Great September Gale of 1821, nope, not due to oil and gas nor preventable by humans.

I've never once noticed you to concede a point, so I'll not hold my breath today....

But wait, there's more, you changed lanes at 120 mph and didn't even worry about using your blinker, why would you, you're doing 120!

However, one thing that should not be ignored and might be equally dangerous are the benefits of Oil to terrorists and rogue nations.

YES!!! You even garnered a like from mp when you started on this angle!

Iran has created a very impressive gun industry funded by their oil profits.

Indeed! Forget about Guns, Germs and Steel! Jared Diamond missed this!!! Guns and Oil! Yes!!! Danger, Danger Will Robinson!

Oil producing countries have bought large portions of companies and territory in the U.S.
They even bought themselves a PGA!

Danger danger! The Arabs are buying our stuff! Even golf!! How dare they!
And the Russians, laundering all that sweet oligarch cash through Trump properties with their ill gotten oil and gas gains from Rosneft, Gazprom and LukOil.
    Pure effing evil my man.
Thank you, I honestly hadn't paid proper attention to these irreversible dangers to life on Earth as we've known it these past 58 years.

I'm not advocating for taking the profits away from countries that might otherwise be poor as dirt.

Whew! I was worried you were going to hammer on Exxon's exploitation of poor Chad for a moment there.

Surely though you are not accepting Kings and Queens from Nigeria buying a Top Golf franchise in Tampa though, are you?

    But this is getting dangerous.

Meh..., you effing pussyfoot around the issue that the KSA is without even naming them. Blech!

Which one of these is your point my right honorable PF associate?

All of the above you say perhaps: DANGER!

Yeah, the worst recovery since WW II.
    Any inter Obamappolgetics?
Nope, it's sign that people were optimistic about the economy after being released from years of Obama "fundamental transforming" the economy into a third world proxy.

Anybody who thinks that drilling more is solution to anything...

Climate Change would be an answer to that if anybody were stopping them from drilling. But it just so happens nobody is stopping them. They just don't find it profitable, I guess...

You spoke about some "anti-drilling crusade". How about the "pro-drilling crusade" that not even oil companies support!

Depends on what your point is. You appeared to believe that oil production was like opening a faucet to a never ending source and then closing it when you don't need more. Strictly speaking nobody "produces" oil. But colloquially we can refer to oil extraction as "producing oil" so long as the above misconception doesn't get in the way. So you will HAVE to state your point

I'm VERY good at no paying attention. So don't tempt me. In any case, I see you have no problem with how oil money has been used to support terrorism and weapon development by some of our adversaries. And it looks like you had some worn out talking points you found left behind in a drawer from before AGW became a scientific consensus. So not paying attention seems like the proper route anyway.

    Thanks for playing...
