Yeah, like I really do that.

And if you pointlessly drag Jim Psycho Jones into this, I'll be tempted to drag in any number of more spectacular atheist murderers. I hope we don't have to go there.

I wish you were as smart as you think you are. I really do. I also wish you knew that #1 and #2 are not mutually exclusive:

"This argument -- that scientific inquiry is essentially incompatible with religious belief -- has been gaining traction in some circles in recent years. In fact, according to a 2009 Pew Research Center survey, American scientists are about half as likely as the general public to believe in God or a higher, universal power. Still, the survey found that the percentage of scientists that believe in some form of a deity or power was higher than you may think -- 51 percent.

Scientists throughout history have relied on data and observations to make sense of the world. But there are still some really big questions about the universe that science can't easily explain: Where did matter come from? What is consciousness? And what makes us human?"

That's from an article in the Huffington Post, a nice religion hating website just for you!

I'll get the cite in a minute ....

    Here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry...ossibility-of-god_us_56afa292e4b057d7d7c7a1e5

As you see, real scientists know the limits of their minds and their science. Do you know the limits of yours?

I would have thought that a fundamentalist would not be ignorant of the meaning of the word "religion". But since you are, let me try to help you get a little basic understanding.
    re·li·gion
    rəˈlijən/
    noun
the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods.

It wasn't pointless at all. Early religious indoctrination leads people to follow religious crackpots like Jim Jones, David Koresh and Jamie Coots.

Jim Jones was an ordained Pastor in the Disciples of Christ church. An organization that still exists today. His followers believed him to be a Messiah.

The Branch Davidians believed David Koresh was the Final Messiah.

Sorry if these facts offend you.

    1. He doesn't believe in evolution.
    2. He doesn't believe in AGW.
    3. He appointed fundamentalist Betsy Devos as his Secretary of Education.
    4. He believes vaccines cause autism.
    5. He selected fundamentalist Mike Pence as VP.

    Lol.
I'm barely Deist, much less Christian, much much less fundamentalist.

You can't refute my point that about half of real scientists (not armchair wannabes) see no tension between a god and science, so you resort to insults?

Up your game, you angry guy.

Those things he did for political expediency. You think JFK liked anything at all about his VP? (Look it up.).

And yet you wrote in post #57...
That sure sounds like something a Creationist would say. Non-Creationists recognize that "flood myths" originated from many different flood events that occurred in many different locales at many different times.

I am well aware that most scientists believe in a god. What's your point?

I am also aware, as I stated, that fundamentalists (the topic of this thread) choose GodDidit over learning.

Where have I insulted you? On the other hand you're OK with posting comments like...

    RE: trump
Uh huh. So Pence and Devos were selected for political expediency. And you are OK with them.
I see you didn't disagree with my other points either.

That it's not genetically possible for 2 people to spawn an entire species. SInce the bible is clear that they were the only two people god directly created, the level of incest that would be precent would have left the species deformed and mentally unstable within a few generations.

That's exactly why we are as we are. We were created in God's image and then, with all the inbreeding, we became us.

But that's OK. If he had put a couple of million "God-like Adam & Eves" on earth we, today, would still be God-like. God didn't want that. Hell, he didn't even want us to have knowledge of good and evil. It was all part of God's plan.

The Adam & Eve story is about the need to obey the First and Second of the Ten Commandments as described in Exodus 34:11-17.

Well, if they want to take every word of the Bible literally it will bite them in the butt. I hope they will enjoy being slaves.

Isaiah 14:1-2 (CEB) = "1 The Lord will have compassion on Jacob, will again choose Israel, and will give them rest in their own land. Immigrants will join them, and attach themselves to the house of Jacob. 2 The peoples will take them and will bring them to their own place. The house of Israel will possess them as male and female slaves in the Lord’s land, making captives of their captors and ruling their oppressors".

There is a lot of harm. Belief in supernatural nonsense leads more belief in supernatural nonsense. The followers of Jim Jones were not atheists. The Heavens Gate followers were not atheists. Scientologists are not atheists.

You are right, but they were egomaniac delusional kooks. Jim Jones wanted his own "world" where everyone was equal and with no outside influence. He was also a drug addict. As far as I know scientologists only believe in money and themselves. Look at Tom Cruise...every member Ive ever heard of , lives in Hollywood.
Heavens gate crew looked like they took one to many LSD trips. The leader looked like a zoned out alien. It was very sad how mislead they all were and the tragic ending those people endured. This isnt the norm.

These are just a few examples. Whether they are the norm or not does not change the fact that early indoctrination into religion is dangerous.

Then why are there similar Flood legends throughout the world?
