The missing detail is that that Senators' attendance is required "during a trial", not in general sessions. The Senate impeachment trial will take Warren, Sanders, Klobuchar, and Booker away from the campaign trail if McConnell wishes to drag the hearings out.

I don't get how anything I've written in this thread would lead you to believe I have faith in the senate. Exactly the opposite.

Again, in 2020, your reign of tyrannical misrule will be over and we will happily drink your tears for many years to come

This is why Pelosi made an error in going forward with impeachment. She herself said that impeachment should not be partisan, but should have broad support from both sides. Then she allowed herself to be pressured and went ahead with a totally partisan investigation. Of course, the Democrat hearings appear contemptuous to the right because they are one-sided. Why would the Senate trial be seen as less than contemptuous by the left? Most Republicans and a lot of Independents do not believe the president's phone call rises to the level of impeachment. Only Democrats wanted this, and even then, not 100% of them.

This won't happen, but Pelosi's smartest move forward would be to get enough Democrats to vote against impeachment during the full-floor vote so that this does not move to the Senate. She would perhaps lose face for that, but losing face is much gentler than what will happen when the Senate conducts the trial.

 

The Senate trial like the house impeachment will be the same kangaroo court, no one cares anymore about facts .

Yes, just replace the word "contempt" with "partisanship" and that's where we are today with this impeachment circus, thanks to Pelosi's misjudgment on moving forward for the benefit of Democrats only. Both sides are circling the wagons to defend their own kind. It's a shame really.

Exactly I remember when some Republicans where calling on the impeachment of Obama we are like shut the **** up. And our congressmen and women agreed what's the point?

 

By flipping 3-4 seats in 2020.

 

Republicans still recall the pain their party suffered for running what was perceived as a purely partisan impeachment against Clinton. They learned their lesson by the time Obama was in office and they simply did not like the direction toward which he was moving the country.

History is about to repeat.

 

The Senate trial, as detailed by the OP, is not going to be the circus event that trump wants. None of the witnesses that right wing pundits want to see testify will take a stand. At most, you MIGHT see the whistleblower testify in a closed door and classified setting, but that's pretty much it.

 

They couldn't flip 2 seats in 2016, they lost seats, Republicans have germanderd the game across all the red states.

 

As a point of education, do you know how many seats the GOP lost after impeaching a very popular president?

Two.

And who won the Presidency during the next election, despite a VP of that popular President running while the economy was doing great?

The Republican.

And Trump is a **** ton less popular and less capable of acting Presidential than Clinton.

But less than a year after his death, Hofeller’s own electronic records threatened to upend two major legal battles unfolding in the courts.

Opponents of the Trump administration’s plan to include a citizenship question on the 2020 U.S. census say records found on a hard drive in Hofeller’s home unmask partisan intent, including language nearly identical to the Justice Department’s justification for the question: aiding enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the rationale seemed contrived and sent the case back to a lower court in New York.

 

Gerrymandering does not affect Senate seats and they actually did flip two seats in 2016.

But I am guessing you meant 2018 and to that I would just point out the MASSIVE difference in the available seats during that cycle. Specifically the fact that Democrats had 26 seats on the chopping block to the Republicans' nine. Ten of those seats were in states that Trump won, 5 in States that he won by double digits.

So keeping the losses to two was a tremendous result actually because it very, very easily could have yielded a Republican Senate majority that would need at least a decade to lose. Now they have a very real chance of losing it next year.

 

I am well aware of the damage caused by him and caused by the Supreme Courts ruling on gerrymandering.

 

Remember the last time the Democrats had a super majority? They didnt do a damn thing about the minimum wage or imagination all they did was run around like chickens with there heads cut off , passed Obama care and got wiped off the map.
