If you want an honest answer, I expect people to put up with it all the way to the bottom. South Africa is instructive. People on the right complain a lot about affirmative action, but South Africa instituted AA on steroids. Now their country is falling apart. Are they changing course?

    Nope.

I don't believe that the vast majority of Americans support mediocrity, but they will support that over being called racist, even if the power goes off, the water turns brown and stinky out of the taps, and airplanes fall from the sky.

LOl! You know damn well you would hire the 11th black dude, otherwise you are admitted you wouldn't hire him because of his race.

I would prefer to hire someone who added diversity to the team.

Not if there was a similarly qualified individual from a different background, and i wouldn't have a problem explaining my reasoning to anyone.

I was kind of agreeing with you until you hit this statement. If that is your only test I hate to say that at anytime in history you could look out your window and there would be morons in positions of power. I am sure if we went back to the middle ages there would be many white men that are morons in positions of responsibility. If you went back 4000 years to the Egyptians you could look out and see brown men that were morons in positions of power. Probably 75000 years ago early homo sapiens had morons in positions of power. That is a constant that never changes.

You would be discriminating against the black dude because he's a black dude.

I would certainly understand why someone might think about it that way.

Do you know if this actually happens in real life? Have you heard hiring people say they do this or is this something reported?

I said I would choose a candidate with adding diversity to my team in mind.

I would understand if the guy i didn't select felt that was discrimination. Hopefully the other 9 black guys on my team would not think i was a racist.

I think diversity is a valuable asset for a team or department. There is nothing wrong with hiring to ensure a team is diverse to enhance performance. I spent many years in the early part of my career recruiting and hiring and it was always part of the calculus.

Well people who already have their jobs can afford to be more forgiving, but the point isn't whether the guy thinks he was discriminated against, it's the fact that he actually was, by your own admission, you are looking for "diversity" which means no more black guys, no matter how qualified.

I have no idea what sort of work team you are putting together that requires "Diversity." Education, work experience, and knowledge of whatever tools required for your team I would think would be more important. I hope you are not hiring pilots or doctors.

If you have not seen the movie "Idiocracy", please do.

I don't think that anyone likes the thought that their airline pilot was a token Eskimo who got his license on line.

The US military in the late 1960s and early 1970s was about as diverse as possible but I'm not sure how diversity, alone, increases performance.

    Please clarify.

    Thanks,

Diversity is valuable anytime there is a job that requires solving problems.

If you owned an NBA or NFL franchise, would you trade most of the black athletes because you needed the appropriate number of white and Hispanic athletes on your team? The same goes for baseball and hockey. Would you get rid of all the majority of Hispanic baseball players/white hockey players?

If all the people who are best at [fill in the blank] happen to be green and blue people with three heads, six arms and four and half feet, who cares? The key is to have a culture which encourages and rewards achievement. The more people who succeed in this country, the better it is for EVERYBODY. Do you know anybody who does not want African Americans to be as successful as possible?

Obviously there are white people in positions of power and responsibility who have not earned such and they should be thrown out on their asses, as well. History is replete with this sort of thing.

Across the board, the best qualified people should get the job. And I believe there is a law in this country that states that there can be no discrimination in choosing who gets any job, that is, the best qualified person wins [as it should be].

This isn't South Africa. In the U.S., there is a great deal more at stake.

The woke thing is starting to burn out already. It's one thing if they were right, ... . These people kept pushing until their narrative became idiotic. It has already failed.

I wasn't aware I owned a basketball team in this hypothetical. I was assuming it as a typical white collar job.

If I had a plumbing company, i would hire the best plumbers. Diversity isn't worth much in that field either.

That seems to be the least important trait for problem solving, but it's rather the answer I expected.

The woke thing is no where near burning out. It's the state religion, but affirmative action precedes wokeism by decades. We're getting more more of it and that will continue no matter what the Supreme Court says.
