As governments around the world brace for a possible nuclear test in North Korea, the entire United States Senate is invited to the White House for a briefing on threats from Kim Jong-Un's government.

There is something very strange about all this. One could begin by asking, who called the meeting?

A Fox News commentator said the President invited the Senate. A meeting of 100 Senators in the White House is itself very strange.

Another report said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., organized the briefing, which will be conducted on Wednesday by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Defense Secretary James Mattis, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"This is a Senate briefing convened by the majority leader, not a White House briefing," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said. "We are just serving as the location."

There has been no word from Senator McConnell. There has been no reaction from a single Senator to this highly unusual move. All the hype is coming from the White House.

Politicus USA reports, "The Trump administration has asked the entire US Senate to the White House for a briefing on North Korea that will take place on Wednesday afternoon. Could this administration be making a case for a war in North Korea?"

This, plus the silence from the Senate seems to suggest McConnell had nothing to do with any of this.

This is all very odd and the timing is significant. Trump's ballyhooed 100 days is up come Saturday. Is there a bit of grandstanding here? Will anything come of this very unusual conference? Why are 100 Senators being marched to the White House when it would be far easier for the four advisors to go to the Senate floor for a closed session?

And why are 100 Senators willing to accept such abuse?

NK has been making BS threats for decades.

Trump is going to start a war simply to help his poll numbers

That would be your EXACT argument if he cured cancer.

"Trump just cured cancer to help his poll numbers".

Unbelievable. Kim Jong Un is a madman working on getting icbm's that can reach the US mainland. He must be stopped.

This whole "presidency" has an Alice in Wonderland quality about it.
    Curioser and curioser.

as to "Why are 100 Senators being marched to the White House when it would be far easier for the four advisers to go to the Senate floor for a closed session" -
I would assume because the Con-man Hisself wants to speak and THEY have to come to HIM.

Just an aside - Turtle-man McConnell is such a low-life, he almost makes Trump seem moral.

Saddam Hussein was never a threat to us. In fact in the lead-up to The Invasion he was begging us to stop.

This pudgy little Korean **** is just begging to get a Tomahawk missile up his ass!!

And those "BS threats" have resulted in the deaths of 89 Americans and injury to 136 Americans.

416 ROK troops have been killed by North Korea, and 667 injured as the result of your "BS threats"

162 ROK civilians were killed and 143 injured due to your "BS threats."

That does not include deaths or injuries from the shelling of Yeonpyeong Island in 2013, which according to you was just another "BS threat".

I know - he wants to show the senate "the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen".
I just hope that if he speaks, he stands up so the seat cushion won't muffle the sound of his voice....

I think Trump has been advised that he cannot go to war with NK without the Congress. I think that is what this is about.

No. I'm serious. A lot of conservatives have made this bullshit claim over the last couple weeks, but none of you support it with any actual proof.

Ignoring propaganda bullshit, what exactly makes Un a "madman"?

Kim has been around for over five years. Every one of those years he has threatened to nuke us and S.K. He won't do it because that will be then end of his "beautiful" country.

So, tell me, what has changed?

I'll tell you what has changed, the belligerent rhetoric coming out of the Trump White House. That is the only change. If you think there are others, please let us know.

Boy, Trump fans are a blood-thirsty bunch. They don't care if 20 million lives are lost in a heartbeat if Trump preemptively attacks North Korea.

Seth, I think you went off the deep end.

Trump has invited the entire Senate for a briefing on North Korea. I've been around for a long time, and I have never heard of such a thing. An internet search did not reveal a similar event.

Trump is not dumb enough to start a war with North Korea.

A few truths need to be spelled out. Trump loves controversy. If there isn't one, he'll make one up.

The timing is very odd, making this controversy even more lurid. Tomorrow, Congress comes back from it's Easter recess. It faces an immediate crisis four days later, a government shutdown with the President not helping by insisting that certain pet projects of his be funded. In other words, Trump could cause a government shutdown if he doesn't back down. Time to change the subject. Let's order the full Senate to the White House.

Add to that, Trump is insisting that health care be addressed this week.

Adding to that, Trump has promised to reveal his tax reform ideas on Wednesday.

Adding to that, Trump's first 100 days is up Saturday, the very day government shuts down if there is no continuing resolution. He accomplished very little during his first 100 days, contrary to his expectations that he widely publicized.

With all this as a backdrop, Trump invites the Senate over for a chit-chat on North Korea on Wednesday.

That was seven hours ago. The Senate has not accepted the invitation. The Senate has had no reaction whatsoever to the Presidential invite. All the rhetoric about this so-called conference is coming from the White House.

As a matter of fact, for something so momentous as the entire Senate going to the White House for a war conference on North Korea, after the White House announcement seven hours ago, there has been a dearth of information, nothing from the White House, nothing from the Senate, and nothing new in media reports.

I was anxious to hear from Bret Baier at 5:00 Eastern Time. He barely touched on this supposedly very important and very unusual Senate conference in the White House. It is almost as if Fox wanted to forget they ever mentioned it.

I could be wrong. I can't read the future. But I think this is grandstanding on Trump's part, still another manufactured crisis. He has made so many of them.

I think we have nothing to worry about. Like I said, war with North Korea, come on, he isn't that stupid.

My gut tells me something is going to happen the next time NK fires off a missile or, perhaps more likely, does an underground nuclear bomb test. I think he is getting Congress ready and probably trying to get their support.

I'm not a conservative for starters. Not sure how that sure how that would have a bearing on the veracity of the facts, but... let's be accurate.

Second, try escaping from the DPRK - you will be shot on sight. Third, he had his own uncle killed. Fourth, I've been to DMZ and have peered through a scope into Panmunjahn. It is an entire city built from the ground up to look like a bustling metropolis; but on closer examination you will notice there is not a single car on a street, nor a single person in sight. Fifth, the North Korean people are kept in abject poverty, literally starving to the point of some trying to survive by eating dirt; Sixth, the dude's hair; Seventh, his father was a madman; Eighth: http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/29/asia/kim-jong-un-executions/

Oh, and finally, I wonder what "propaganda bullshit" this hard-right conservative was reading: https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-faces-north-korean-challenge-1479855286 :roflol:

Finally, the proper way to refer to the madman is Kim, not Un. You always reference a Korean person using their family name.
