I just came across this and wanted to post it in honor of Veteran's Day. My source said the author is un known. If anyone has the proper attribution, please share.
Cute, but...I was a soldier and I fought in vietnam, I do certainly hope that no one judges my life based on those two years and not on my life as a husband and father, educator and helper to the needy. I am proud of my service to this nation but NOT proud of what was necessary to do. War is terrible and too many people venerate it and the people that perform it. Soldiers do a job, one that is not done by all. But that job is a horrible job and I personally wish to be remembered for something other than killing enemies. Find a song or poem about a soldier home from the wars who became a good father, one who performed a service to improve the lives of others and will gladly salute that poem. The best I can say of this one is that it is cute.
