I think it was a response to Alexander he said deeply religious people can sometimes scare him and I agree with that too they can sometimes be very scary. Depends on the religion and the denomination.

Baby scared isn't the right word some of them disgust me with their cruelty.

That's correct, so is the claim that some of the nicest people are religious. I've met very nice atheists.

It's never the nice ones that scare people. It's never been nice people that ran me off from a church. It's always the *******s. In everything.

Nobody ever suggested that our group was ever going to win the species of the year award.

Get your own act together and you will find that your fears will dissipate.

Why worry so much about others in this way? Be happy they have found a path...and give them time to make sense out of it. It's a lifetime journey for most.

And besides, make peace with your 'self' and you will see that other people can have little effect on you [and when they do, you will clearly see what actions you must take].

In this post of yours you seem to be missing that we are a society.

To be successful it IS necessary for there to be negotiation and compromise.

That's why our founders designed our government as they did.

This response perplexes me it doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I said or possibly what anyone on this entire thread said.

Yes some of the nicest people you can meet are deeply religious I agree with that but some of that nastiest people are too they do some of the most vicious crimes what I'm saying is that's not a metric to consider when evaluating someone's religious devotion.

    It's a factor of people.

This is where I take issue. For the vast majority, I believe religion gives people many beliefs/skills that ground them [especially their egos]. From simply a morality perspective, understanding that the accepted code of conduct has been handed down by a force that cannot be compromised is especially valuable when the Devil and Angel [in your head] are debating a particular course of action.

i was raised catholic, but not until 25yrs ago when i discovered spirituality through becoming sober did i become connected to presence of god in everything...
i still read a lot and right now i am leaning on organized Christianity having absorbed roman culture around 300-400AD and becoming corrupted
when religion and government were intertwined much more than now, i believe many confuse organized religion with belief in god
with all the earthly political activity in the time of Jesus, its hard not to label him as a quasi-socialist, in my own journey i am looking at Christianity as just more or less a sect of judasim, along with muslimism maybe

Disagree. I've volunteered at churches for various tasks and doing the most egotistical viscous people I've ever met. They will torture their own children.

Where it can be a good positive influence on people it isn't always.
She thing has been used to make children the victims of sexual abuse so I'm not sure it's strictly positive.

My family converted to catholicism when I was a child. So I was sort of raised Catholic though I didn't learn much about catholicism until I left it.

I left because I had to accept my sexuality. And the church didn't want to. I'm still Christian but not really into the organized religion anymore. I'll participate once in a while. Also my partner was born into Mormonism. He was abused by religion.

I have two sort of maxims, 1, humans cannot "know" completely an infinite being
    2. the world exists, therefore good is stronger than negative....
i watched a documentary where a religious christian scholar tried to trace religion back in time and came to the simple pre-christian "as above, so below" that had him rethink his christian and become more "spiritual" god is everywhere and we just need to connect...personally the modern day evangelical right has gotten so far into chasing power, they have left Christianity behind, i have faith in the younger people who just see god as not a punishing, vengeful entity, but a loving one,

    Well said.....
I do believe that Christianity is going through many positive changes....
near death experience accounts and testimonies are certainly having a positive effect.
