Very well then, lets discuss it. The way I see it, the goal of gun control is to disarm the people thereby gaining more control over them. What do you see as the goal of gun control?
Then if even the government of the nation of Canada could not register every single legally owned firearm in the nation, then there is no hope of such being done in the united states where there are more than ten times the number of existence to deal with.
Then take the argument to a more appropriate forum, if saving lives is ultimately the driving focus. Get away from firearms, which amount to a minuscule amount of deaths annually, and go to where the more pressing causes of death are being discussed.
And it will ultimately prove to be a complete failure. There will continue to remain hundreds of millions of unregistered, untraceable firearms in the united states, as the public will refuse to comply with any registration requirements, just as they have done in states that have attempted to implement them. Nothing positive will come about, only wasted resources. The best that can be done in pursuing such goals is total failure, and no amount of denial will change that fact.
Then why does the nation of Canada not have all privately owned firearms registered? Why did they choose to ignore already existing firearms, and only pursue registration of newly purchased firearms?
Nice statement but what plan are you offering? In your opening remarks quoted above you never made it clear what your ideas are or what plan you have for gun control. You offered the above statement. I suggested, if there was nothing more serious than saving lives, that areas other than gun control might be looked at. I suggested this as there are other many things causing greater numbers of deaths than guns. To which you answered: So let's discuss gun control. You have made some interesting comments in this thread. I don't agree with most of them but they are nonetheless interesting. You have also provided some good links to things I also disagree with. That being said I have been unable to figure out exactly what gun control plan you are offering. Since you started the thread I'll let you state what your gun control plan is. Then I will respond with my plan and we can have a good discussion. Rich
He goes to prison if caught with a gun even if there is no registration law. He can’t possess any gun. He has nothing to lose.
The criminal has no more to lose if caught with a register or unregistered gun. He goes to prison either way. But you know this already.
