Finally, a feel-good story about guns. Jon Meis' reported habit of carrying pepper spray may have saved students' lives after a man opened fire at a Seattle college. The shooter had just wounded three people Thursday, one of whom died. He was reloading his shotgun when Meis, a volunteer security guard, saw an opening. He doused the gunman with the spray and tackled him to the ground. Other students at Seattle Pacific University piled on and took the weapon away from suspected shooter Aaron Ybarra, 26, police said. Officers are convinced the bloodshed at the Christian school would have been worse had Meis and the others not intervened. http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/06/us/seattle-hero-profile/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 This kid is a real American hero. It must have taken a lot of guts to confront that deranged shooter. The students who unarmed the shooter were also brave. They should all be commended for possibly saving the lives of many more students. I'm glad to see the public taking action. I can't help but think of Flight 93, where passengers just sat in fear and decreased their chances of survival from 1% to 0%.
they should have armed themselves, then this POS would have gone off and committed suicide These gun free zones are sure working, ain't they
Pardy, I agree this guy is a hero. It took guts to do what he did. I don't think this incident did anything to aid either side of the gun control debate. And I am not in favor of the absurdity of gun-free zones. I also would have applauded the young man if he had put several well-aimed shots in the guy with the shotgun.
IKR.... you'd think that nobody would ever get shot at a gun show. 5 injured after firearms go off at Ohio, N.C., Indiana gun shows
He was a hero. But if he had a gun and shot the guy .....he would be a hero as well. I am getting from your post that heros don't use guns? Perhaps I'm misreading.....
So in other words...if a man who had no weapon at all--- tackled the gun man--he would be a greater hero then the pepper spray guy? And more highly celebrated? I don't see it that way. I think a person who reacts to save others is a hero.
Any one who risks their lives to save others is a hero in my book. Some of the risks happen to be higher. I admire his courage. If he had no pepper spray, I'd admire him even more, but he's still a hero.
5 in three shows..........cops kill more people than that in a day across America. cars kill more people in one hour than these three shows. and these were accidental... your anecdotal message loses it's luster when viewed in a different light. Car accidents ladder falls shower slips dog bites
And they did it WITHOUT a gun!! The Monash university shooter was also disarmed without a gun and he had already shot 5 people It is possible and often more than possible for people to act right - but they cannot be crippled by the thought that without a gun they are defenceless
