I know my family history quite well and not a one of them ever owned slaves. A few fought for the Union. So I guess I would be exempt from paying any compensation. How do you single out who would pay? Do American Indians pay?

While I'll admit I've known a handful of welfare abusers who avoided work during my life, that number was minuscule compared to the number of unemployed I've know who were desperate to find work ASAP. It's grossly unfair to blame all who are unemployed as "lazy" or averse to work, when most are unemployed due to circumstances beyond their personal control.

No, they're not. They're unemployed because they don't have any marketable skills. That is our own responsibility (to acquire). And if you are some kind of super special exception, whereby there was just no possible way you could ever have improved your marketability via Community College, or any one of the thousands of free programs designed to do just that, then you fall back on family and make yourself useful at home. Trawl sidewalks for vintage pieces to sell online. Stuff envelopes. Telemarket. Grow vegetables for the family, which contributes to the household coffers by saving money AND health. Do whatever you can to reduce the family budget, which is an alternate way of making money.

I recall a particular road in Hayward CA. It was then a dirt road. A number of residents lived in homes on that dirt road. They could have paid to pave it. That would be classic socialism. They could have voluntarily sought the road. And not went Democratic party on us by seeking others in the city, almost none others using the dirt road but at the time I saw the dirt road it was not happening.

In viewing the road now, it is clearly paved.
