I would say all those who died during the pointless "containment" of Iraq from 1991 to 2003 (anywhere from 400-800) are the ones who died for nothing.

Nukes don't need to kill people directly to destroy nations. Using hundreds of nukes to kill entire population centers is highly impractical. All you need to do is hit major points of infrastructure and the whole thing collapses. 1 strategic nuke hitting China's Three Gorges for example is enough to cause a national catastrophe that will take years to recover. Nukes can be aimed at roads, powerplants, communication towers, and oilfields. This makes the transportation of power, medical supplies, and food slow down to a crawl for it takes weeks for radiation to clear up. That is enough to starve major population centers to complete anarchy especially if you can hit major capitals and kill global leaders. Major US Military bases are not invisible, they can be easily hit. Underground bases like Cheyanne Mountain is not hidden either, since they are too complex, full of infrastructure to hide. 100 ICBM hits will collape the mountain base. The result is a Dystopian World where at least tens of millions are dead, millions of people dying of disease and starvation, martial law by a military junta to have even a hope of the nation recovering which will take decades. It is a world where US in no way can be a superpower anymore, for sure.

He asked all military force leaders to participate. So in all branches, they all worked as a united team. Franks grew disgusted with our US Generals working to inform presidents, known as the Joint Chiefs of Staff and walked out on them declaring he was not going to be party to their Cluster Sex act.

Bush for his role told Franks he had 100 percent control. That not even Rumsfeld was his senior in rank. Bush was the sole leader of Franks. Franks would brief Bush from time to time, including at his ranch in TX. Rumsfeld understood his role and did his best to help Franks in any way he was able to. Colin Powell was briefed as well and he was fine with the entire plan of operations.
