The odds for 2 mulattos to get a fully white child are higher than of the anomalies in US elections

It has definitely been used in a disparaging manner. But if you are finally wiling to let it go, we can move on to something that matters. What do you have?

Talking to a progressive is a test of strength and patience. Good grief.

You'd be less out of breath if you'd just try accepting some reality. But we wouldn't be here if that were on the table, now would we?

What? That everything is racist and to effectively communicate with one, I need to use descriptions to refer to differences in people?

. . . it's literally an outdated term referring specifically to race and nothing else. Try more time reading and less time just rubbing your head.

Do you have a word we can use to replace descriptors as mulatto or woman? Or we just gonna hand wave them off and that's that?

    upload_2022-9-30_14-50-56.png

That seems to not be offensive but more a descriptor of a reality as to how you get someone to be half white and half black...

Can't find much of a use for it these days. So why revive it? But you do you. Maybe when you are done trying to revive outdated racial terms you can figure out how any of this actually relates to the election, as outlined in the OP.

So you do not wish to reveal your academic standing.

It makes principal difference in the probability theory problem I discussed. What difference heads or tails make?

The probability for two mulattos to produce a fully black or fully white child is equal to the probability to get 46 heads or 46 tails in a row in coin tossing. I could use a coin tossing example in the title of the thread but it would be much less intriguing.

So if someone not looking quite black or white white would stump you as a means to communicate what their racial heritage is.

    Got it.

This thread manages to inform the reader by using said word and nobody was offended...life went on

Feel free to actually discuss the OP if you can muster that. In the meantime, I'll be sure to start using the outdated term the moment that a mixed-race person asks me to do so. Thus far, I've only heard white people use that term, only pejoratively, and even then, it's been decades.

Dude, for ****'s sake, you tried passing off "negress" as a useful term. I'm starting to think you've never met anyone who isn't white.

that would be like saying good luck finding a green eyed person cause even if their eyes are green, because one of their parents did not have the same color eyes, so they are not really green

can say their non-dominant genes they got from a different eye color and may pass them on, but they're still green-eyed

instead of eye color here we are dealing with skin color

The dictionary does not care about your feelings. I'm starting to believe that any descriptor for anything other then white is going to offend you.

There is no such thing as "the" dictionary. And the one you cited was from about 50 years ago. And don't lecture people about dictionaries when you can't tell the difference between "then" and "than."

    Not according to Mandelian genetics.
From 2 parents of pure white and black parents
There is 25% risk of black or white and 50% of a mix.
This gets fractured into different mixes over the generations.

I do object to the term mulatto.
It wad a derogatory term during slavery.
    No one uses it now.

No you have NOT a explained what difference skin colour makes. There is some vague connect between skin colour and voting preferences

But you can compare apples to oranges.

Sorry, just had to point out the absurdity of that expression.

Maaaate! I live in Aus and our First Nation people inherit skin colour quite differently from African American people and to add more complexity to the mix many First Nation people in North West Qld also have mixed heritage from Chinese, Afghan and Torres straight Islander immigrants. I call these people fellow humans.

    Fellow Humans

That is the only appellation that should ever be applied

Not always. Sometimes the mix is expressed in features, rather than skin tone. They will be white, but have the features of the non-white parent. EG:

    In fact I was.
It was a term used when selling slaves and denoted relative value of that person.
It is disgraceful to use it.

The term used today is mixed race.
And the mention of " negress" in your dictionary extract is also offensive.

Mixed race isn't specific. Mixed race could be half white half Asian. Half Asian half black...half black half white.

Do you have a word that would specifically refer to the half white half black mix that doesn't trigger your sensitivity?

    No.
I have never heard anyone have the occasion to discuss such a crass issue.
