The President always gets the blame when he is a Repubican. The Dems were given great deals many times already and they never take the deal. They didn't pass immigration law while they were in the majority, under Obama especially.
They don't care about protecting the border or fixing immigration law. Period. They are all talk. They use the subject as a talking point against Repubs. They are all talk, no action.

They make me sick.

 

I think those others are unlikely to occur. Republicans don't want the wall because if we do something to reduce illegal aliens there wouldn't be a sub class to undercut the American worker.

 

In fairness, it's not about money, it's never been about money, Democrats couldn't give a flying **** about spending and neither could Republicans. They spent 3 million funding players to play World of Warcraft. They don't give a ****.

1) Less money earned her will be spent there AND THEN PUT INTO OUR ECONOMY NOT THEIRS..
2) Money we will save on Law Enforcement, Health and Human services and education.

I don't know any Dem who supports open borders. The Dems support the use of modern technology first as a deterrent rather than a 30 billion dollar wall that may not work. Pelosi and Schumer express these views many times and yet Trump supporters constantly
misquote them. And you are aware of it if you are listening. Trump is a liar and wants his ego massaged. Let's not forget that his
promise to his base included a wall paid for by Mexico.

Local elections are, federal level elections have more guidelines that must be followed. If CA wants to allow anyone in the area to vote on state or local level elections, that's on them.

 

There's no need to 'hold their feet to the fire' to explain their version of what they consider to be sensible, logical border security, they have both been distinctly clear about border security and only someone that doesn't want to understand or listen wouldn't have known what it is. Let me get down to the bottom line here and I hope people are going to read this because everything I'm saying is a factual. The 'open borders' myth that you've been fed in propaganda is just that, it's a myth and there's no truth to it whatsoever. Democrats never believed in open borders, they have always maintained that we need border security. That's just a fact, prove me wrong if you don't believe it.

Now, about the 'wall'. Even if today, Congress appropriated tens of billions of taxpayer money for Trump's wall, it will never come to fruition. Not in your lifetime, not even in the lifetime of your future generations. Only about one-third of the 1,954-mile U.S.-Mexico border is covered by some kind of barrier, making the construction of an unbroken fence a herculean and expensive engineering feat. A wall would be even more so, with cost estimates as high as $67 billion. The wall will never be entirely built because of eminent domain. The government would have to take a ton of private land away from people and compensate them for taking it. Before Trump’s wall can be built, landowners need to agree to it and not all of them are the least bit enthusiastic about it. These landowners are among the nation’s richest people, owning land in some of the most remote places in the country. They are multi-generational ranchers and recent arrivals, heirs to Fort Knox-like fortunes and the inheritors of fallow dirt patches along America’s southern border. Bill Addington, a rancher in Texas has little interest in erecting a wall on his family's land and has stated "Trump will build a wall on my land over my dead body."

These are fiercely independent landowners and they have one thing in common: They will almost certainly take center stage if Donald Trump moves forward with his promise to wall off the border with Mexico. As such, the question of who owns the border and how they will be compensated is an enormous problem and an enormous cost to taxpayers. But many owners say they have no intention of giving up their land without a fight. Will Trump call the U.S. military to the border to fight U.S. farmers and landowners? I doubt it but then with Trump, who can tell.

The second reason a wall will never be built is the 'Secure Fence Act'. The U.S. is still in federal court litigating getting pieces of land that the federal government needed to do that and it has already taken decades tied up in courts to litigate that and the same is going to happen with the wall.

Since 2007, more illegal immigrants have entered the country through illegal over-stays of visas than have entered through the Southern border. In 2014, two-thirds of illegals came in through the same way, illegal over-stays of visas, and Trump has done nothing to address that problem whatsoever. Trump hasn't talked about it because he's not really serious about immigration he only wants to talk about the wall because that's what his base wants to hear, that's something they can understand and hang their hats on. It's something they can loudly chant at rallies while they hold up handmade signs saying 'build the wall!'. It's all propaganda.

 

Meh, dems voted for walls many times in the past but are now against them either due to TDS or fealty to their corporate donors that lobby for cheap labor.

Democrats never voted for any border 'wall', they have agreed to billions of U.S. taxpayer money for border fencing, the same type of 'sophisticated bollard-type slat fencing' that Trump is going to concede to building rather than a 'brick and mortar' wall as he has stated repeatedly. Over the past 24 years, the amount of money spent on border security has increased 14 times; the number of border patrol agents have increased 500 percent; the amount of border wall has grown from 77 miles to 700 miles since 2000; and the number of people being apprehended trying to cross the border have decreased by four-fifths.

The estimated effectiveness of a concrete wall is diminishing as the total cost of such a wall is increasing while the expected returns of this type of a wall is negligible. Those 8 prototypes that Trump ordered so he could make a big display of it for his base costs between 300,000 and half million each. That's a cost of $4 million to the U.S. taxpayer that we're never going to get back.

 

I thought everyone knew that long ago.
