What are you talking about? The gop sponsored both pieces of legislation. They had past people civil rights legislation where they were apposed at all times by the dems

I take it you are upset about 3/5th representation that limited the south's representation in Congress.

No it allowed them to count their slaves people with no rights for the census. It should have been only those with rights

Yes, the slaves should not have been counted, since all that was doing was forcing them to help their masters keep them in bondage.

That would be Neocons and it is they that are very small in numbers. And the difference between they and leftists is basically military spending.

Not at all. I am talking about the far right that is evangelically right, corporatist right, and culturally right. Those people are as Progressive as they come, as they want to have Big Government tell us all how to live.

You have this back asswards. It was the Republicans, in particular Sen Dirksen, Senate Minority leader, who made the filibustering Democrats kneel and swear allegiance to civil rights and voting rights for minorities.

I have it right, and the extremist right wing have it wrong on CR and the Voting act.

More Dems in higher percentages in the South and North and West voted for the CR and V acts than did the GOP in the South and North and West.

This is true, the southern democrats were the conservatives filibustering civil rights legislation, and that the GOP at the time voted with bigger margins to pass the civil rights act and voting rights act of 63 and 64.

The sad truth though is the party that was created for civil rights and protection of minorities, started to pander to the racists starting with Nixon. The GOP and the Dems should have both after 1964 said, to the racists in the south, I don't know what party you belong to, but you don't belong to ours, and kicked them out.

Then today, we would have 2 major parties free of racism and a fringe confederate party gaining less than 30% of the vote every time.

Conservatives never love democracy. They prefer strong men, autocrats to lead society.
Democracy has its roots in Liberalism.

Our Republic (not democracy) has it's roots in Classical Liberalism. Today's left would not be recognizable as liberals by the founders.

So to speak, US Conservatives are followers of Classical Liberalism while European Conservatives can be seen as mostly anti-liberal.

To a certain extent, the US Libertarians are closer to classical liberals.

At that cloture vote, Dirksen said: "Victor Hugo wrote in his diary substantially this sentiment: 'Stronger than all the armies is an idea whose time has come.' The time has come for equality of opportunity in sharing of government, in education, and in employment. It must not be stayed or denied"

Point 3 = Democrats. Everyone knows the KKK were and still are Democrats.
In fact they're all leftists positions.

Most of this list is fully ascribed to historically Democrat Party policies.

You can add Common Core to the list which is designed to handicap young Black and Hispanic boys.

Denying the factual truth and calling truth tellers 'liars' does not reflect well on you.

You mean the politics of southern conservatism, both Dem and Pub, well, yes. Conservatives are not for civil liberties.

And the Dems were the far right, conservative party at that time. When the KKK was created, the Republicans were considered the liberal party.

And the OP cleared stated that the RIGHT believed in those things, not the Republicans.

The southern conservatives were the racists who hated the Constitution and people of color.
