    Indeed

To be more exact: European nations depend on the American market to sell their companies' goods. These companies and their employees are then made to pay proper taxes and social insurance contributions which in turn pay for the 'goodies'.
European nations are upset with Obama for not standing up against ultra-conservatives and the banks that were the main donors for his campaign and thus is neither able to introduce a proper fiscal reform nor to implement proper controls on these banks whose casino-like gambling was responsible for this crisis in the first place.

Everybody is sucking everybody's tit. Where do you think American companies sell their goods to?
And if America wasn't so obsessed with wasting money on its military even after having successfully driven the former USSR to outspend itself the world would probably not be in the trouble it is in now. Remember that Bush inherited a healthy household from Clinton. In just 8 years of throwing money at the weapon's industry in unnecessary wars while at the same time lowering taxes for the rich Bush managed to drive this household to its knees and left the mess for Obama to tidy up.

    This is quite true.
The IMF has been handing out cash with strings attached for decades.
They completely screwed Chile and Argentina in the '70's, and recently they screwed Poland, and Russia, setting the stage for the Russian Oligarchs.

And guess who are generally the financial beneficiaries of their hi-jinx?

I hope the leaders of Europeans nations have a better understanding of who was responsible for the crisis in the first place, and it wasn't the banks - it was our government...

I hope you remember who was your president at the time when the banks' investment bubble blew.

The difference being , unlike our Yankee cousins , our stupid one's tend to keep their mouths shut.:)

Most of us also have sense enough to know there are only two things in life that are unavoidable – death and taxes

So we try to elect lawmakers who support laws in which Low - medium earners - pay low - medium scale taxes , and we make sure the Super/Mega Rich pay Super/Mega Taxes. .

But it seem that yr super/mega Rich have convinced the masses that increased taxes are bad , thereby getting you all to defend their fortunes .

Smart guys those Mega -rich americans , how else did they get where they are . ? Szimples -:)

    I remember, junobet.

Do you remember the presidents who created Fannie Mae? How about the CRA? Do you remember which president expanded the CRA to the dimensions that contributed to the scale of the crash?

    Here's a hint: they're all Democrats...

As for the rest of your post, our debt mess is a product of the profligacy of self-serving government officials who spend with the reckless disregard of a drunken Chav. Raising taxes won't solve that problem...

Talon , you people cant keep on passing the blame onto " government officials " - they were elected - + politicians to ensure appointees work in the countries interest.

Remember - you've got the government you deserve .

    cheers...

Don't run away, my ignorant English friend!

Your Leftist class-warfare psychobabble won't address the fact that many of our officials can't control their appetite for MORE spending and programs regardless of their revenue base. Even if we took the bad advice of clueless European Socialists whose own countries are drowning in debt, our Lefties in DC won't suddenly stop trying to expand the scale and expense of government.

I see the Socialists who told you how to think have you well trained. Try taking an Econ 101 class instead...;)

I agree with you that the American people are responsible for the people elect, which is why it is heartening to see Nanny State Leftists losing more and more of their seats in government. You'll see more of that next November, starting with the Alinskyite in Chief. It's a clear sign that Americans are taking their civic responsibilities more seriously than they have in the past.

Nevertheless, that doesn't absolve our government officials of their own profligacy. The electorate doesn't have a say in every spending bill that crosses the desks on Capitol Hill.

Oh, and by the way, we got the government that a majority of the electorate placed in office. Many of us didn't request, much less deserve, the government we've had since 2008...

Drowning in debt? And who do we have to thank for the tanking global economy? Why, that bastion of fiscal propriety and unparalleled economic brilliance, the United States of Failure. Thanks America.

Yes, Fannie Mae was founded as part of the New Deal by the Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938. So the New Deal got the USA out of the Great Depression, didn't it? That's probably why Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower largely kept it going. Maybe it's time the USA looked for inspiration in the past on how to deal with the current crisis. Well, Obama obviously did, hence the idea of a stimulus packet. Didn't carry it through though, because he's dominated by people who can't look any further back than Reagan and even misread that one.

What happened to Fannie Mae? It got privatized, and it was indeed another Democratic President who instigated that rather common move of privatizing the profits while keeping the risks public, the kind of deal by the way that's a capitalist's wet dream.

As for it's more recent history shortly before the crash, according to this article from the Ludwig van Mises Istitute that can hardly be described as "socialist":

    http://mises.org/daily/2627

The thing is, you gently overlooked my criticism of Obama, probablybecause it's far on the 'left' of your criticism of him: Just as any other US-American politician who wanted to make a career, he's been bought by his kind donors and thus will not regulate the international money market, so that frauds like that of Fannie Mae can't repeat themselves. If he did, I'm sure there'd be outcries of "Socialism" from your end of the political spectrum.

And I can't believe I just got dragged into the same kind of ridiculous partisan bickering that you Democrats/Republicans engage in in this forum without even realizing – as the short history of Fannie Mae amply shows – that the differences between your two parties are marginal.

My humble advice would be to start thinking logically and stop holding your country in a lock-down with such bickering. And to give you a further little hint: if the majority of Americans had any logical self-interest in them rather than being utterly brainwashed this quote of Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower would still hold truth:

B S - Pls spare me that crap abt Americans taking their civic responsibilies - seriously , its as old as the Republic.

The the mob mentality, follow the leader, which has from day one defined/characterized the American nation. Unfortunately , to their costs , throughout their past , they've prroved to be very easily persauded by smooth tongued political tricksters.

Nothing has changed nore likely to , in future..

Do I need to spell out PIGS for ya?

You've got your Leftist co-travelers in Europe and America to thank for fiscal propriety and unparalleled economic brilliance that has led to the tanking global economy.

    Take a bow, Leftards...

Because after years of brainwashing, many Americans are sold on the illusion that they too might become millionaires some day. Why would you want to tax yourself? That's the beauty of democracy, you can always vote for more benefits and less taxes.

And oddly enough, Michael Moore thinks all Americans are stupid. He both fits the sterotype and believes in it.

Sounds like a plan I could get behind. Imagine the benefit to the world all of those expat American liberals could provide. The world is crying for more gender studies, and art history majors and by golly, the US has 'em!

Meanwhile the stay at homes could get the countries fiscal house in order. Sounds like a win.win.
