The point is the Middle East is a s*** show and our allies eventually turn into our enemies. Allies in the Middle East are necessary evils.
Yep. Legal residents die and are killed on a regular basis around the world. Nope, it is not the duty of the US government to meat out justice.
He sought asylum in the US. We gave it to him and granted him permanent residency to protect him from the KSA. He was murdered in a NATO ally's country. This is our business.
I posted a link and gave my opinion. If you have a ton of evidence that this link is inaccurate feel free to provide it.
He wrote an entire OpEd less than a year after 9/11, and before that in 1995 Khashoggi tried to convince Bin Laden to give up the war against the West and return to Saudi Arabia. Maybe you should do the elementary level research before just willfully sharing the first propaganda article you find? Here’s the Op Ed: http://www.dailystar.com.lb/Opinion/Commentary/2002/Sep-10/101490-a-saudi-mea-culpa.ashx
Thank you, interesting reading. I believe the link I the OP adressed the fact that there was a break between UBL and Khashoggi in what the methods to spread radical islam should be. This goes along with the theory that he was trying to undermine the Saudi government in other ways and the very article you linked me to is evidence of that as he laid the blame for 9-11 on the Saudis. The OP link also eludes to the fact that his views on terrorism may have morphed a bit over the past twenty years as his methods have failed to bring about the desrired overthrow of the Saudi dynasty
Not really. Permanent residency means nothing more than we let him live in the US. That doesn't give him the same rights or give us any obligations to him. A Saudi was killed by other Saudis in a Saudi consulate in a foreign country. I fail to see what this has to do with the US. In a perfect world maybe, but we've known Saudi does stuff like this for decades and we need them as an ally for economic and regional reasons.
Only to a certain extent, which is why Trump is giving it any attention at all. Funny thing that Obama and his worshipful leftists didn't care about the known evil habits of that government over the course of eight years but NOW our leftists suddenly care. Gasp! It-It's almost as if this is p-o-l-i-t-i-c-a-l for them. The main point, however, is that Trump is already doing -- and intelligently so by the way -- all that he should be doing. Meanwhile our leftists SEEM to be pushing for a war. Of course over the course of eight years under their sacred and holy Peace President, Obama, they cultivated a taste for him bombing countless innocent people and their nations. It must be nostalgia on their part.
We do business with china after they run over peaceful protesters with tanks but we are supposed to destroy our Saudi relationship over this.
You’re welcome. Sure, the article you linked to says one little line about how Khashoggi didn’t believe in violence, but then spends the rest of the time trying to tie Khashoggi to Bin Laden and the Muslim Brotherhood’s worst elements. It’s patently clear what the purpose of this article is to do, and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.
The article in the OP does nothing but point out this guy is not the innocent journalist the left wing media is portraying him as. He has a very long checkered past associated with some very radical organizations and people. He is himself a radical jihadist bent on spreading his religion world wide and our media is actively trying to cover this up. It's unfortunate that they refuse to do some research into him and inform us which is ostensibly their job and we are forced to do the research ourselves. Twitter and Facebook are even going out of their way to stop anyone looking into this by blocking discussion of it.
How was he a radical jihadist? Now, after reading that Op Ed where he criticizes extremism and recognizing that he does so, you are back only a few minutes later making the same accusation. Why should anybody believe you when you’re so clearly warping his background for a nefarious purpose?
That's because this is actually strictly political in nature for the collective Left. It's just another chance to try and give Trump a black eye. They don't actually care about their political weapon of choice -- a dead journalist -- just that he CAN be used as a tool. Cold, yes, but also so very, VERY typical of the Left. You almost have to admire them for having no perceptible ethics while they totally embrace a philosophy of The End Justifies the Means.
You should be the one answering this question not asking it. “We were hoping to establish an Islamic state anywhere,” Khashoggi reminisced about their time together in the Muslim Brotherhood. “We believed that the first one would lead to another, and that would have a domino effect which could reverse the history of mankind.” "The media calls Khashoggi a journalist, but his writings from 80s Afghanistan read as Jihadist propaganda with titles like, “Arab Mujahadeen in Afghanistan II: Exemplifies the Unity of Islamic Ummah”. And when Osama bin Laden set up Al Qaeda, he called Khashoggi with the details. After Afghanistan, Jamal Khashoggi went to work as a media adviser for former Saudi intel boss, Prince Turki bin Faisal, alleged to have links to Al Qaeda. Those allegations came from, among others, Zacarias Moussaoui, the alleged twentieth hijacker." "But unlike Osama bin Laden, Khashoggi did not use the Muslim Brotherhood as a gateway drug to the pure and uncut violence of Al Qaeda or ISIS. He was still betting on a political takeover. As he recently put it, “Democracy and political Islam go together.” "What Khashoggi wasn’t, was a moderate. No more so than the Muslim Brotherhood. He wasn’t a proponent of human rights, but of Islamic rule. He could be found on Al Jazeera, Qatar’s Jihadist propaganda network, bemoaning Saudi opposition to the Brotherhood and its friendliness to Israel. “Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman should get rid of his complex against the Muslim Brotherhood and stop treating them as the enemy or a threat to Saudi Arabia,” he complained, and urged the Saudis to fight Israel instead."
100% false. The constitution is quite clear on what is protections for only citizens. Legal residents are absolutely protected except where explicitly stated otherwise.
So, the bottom line is that you don't care. And you are willing to slander the dead journalist to dissuade others from caring.
You said it was false then proceed to say the same thing, nice. Some constitutional protections apply to everyone, like state funded education, and others apply to only citizens, like voting. Technicalities aside, it's also irrelevant because the main point is the constitution offers no protection nor is it in effect in a FOREIGN country. Theres nothing in the constitution offering you protection if you travel to turkey and get kidnapped. If you're a citizen the government has a morale responsibility to help, but nothing official or constitutional. The government has no such obligations for non citizens.
Whatever. I'll not let you derail the thread which is about American media covering up who and what Hhashoghi really was
Bottom line is I don't like the way our media is trying to cover up who this guy really was. They are supposed to inform us not manipulate us.
