You don't have to go back to the 80s for an example of how Americans convict people outside of the courts. Yes, things do get a bit crazy sometimes, such as that Zimmerman trial where even Obama got involved, once the reverend Al decided to turn it into a three ring circus. Spike Lee was busy tweeting out the wrong address, and everybody had a theory as to what happened.

Obviously you're totally in favor of the court silencing all media reporting on this trial. Maybe that's for the best, but I'm a free speech kinda guy, and that means accepting both the good and the bad.
