Amazing that Russia sends in 200 to 300k against like 40k in Human Wave suicide attacks on Bahkmut and they still cannot fully take the city. How many Russian citizens lives does it take to win. Russians should be asking Putin if this was even worth it. No Specail Military Operation involves losing up to 200k citizens all while now claiming they are fighting for their very existence. Word on the street in Russia is that just about everyone is questioning Putin's goals.

I wonder how right the author ultimately is and what other outcomes we might hope to see, and what would actually follow if Putin did decide to use a nuke against Ukraine.

 

If Putin were to use a nuke against Ukraine then it would be likely all his forces in Ukraine would be erased by NATO air.
I do not find the linked article as pessimistic as you do for Ukraine.

The Russian air defense network is both extensive and sophisticated, and extends over Crimea. NATO air forces would not fire a single round at ground forces before a massive stealth/helicopter bombardment of that network.

 

I suspect Russia's air defense is junk just like the rest of Russia's forces, but you're right about one thing. Phase One of the NATO air campaign would be to eliminate Russia's air defense capability. Might take a day or two.
