Its fine to teach values as long as those values are pretty universal. But I don't think schools should teach religious values. E.g. an anti-bullying message is fine, but teaching that abortion is morally wrong is probably going to cause problems.
<<< MODERATOR EDIT: QUOTATIONS PUT AROUND OP QUOTE >>> Comparative religious courses are not brainwashing. The attempt to wash them out of public education more fits your comments, CourtJester.
Any education can be regarded as 'imposing' something. Any education can, however, teach that it is imposing so that the student becomes aware of what imposition is and how to deal with it. That, in part, is the reason to teach about religion(s).
I don't think the abortion value is religious value. Some secularists value life as well. It is an optional way of thinking.
And I'm curious about your thoughts on one part of that .... "only way to get grade A or 5 (A-F=5-1) was to attend church service every Sunday." Do you think that is a good requirement?
Even a few Muslims put their children in Catholic schools because discipline is rigid and academic standards are high. Muslim students have to take all the religious classes in Catholic schools, and still a few Muslim parents think putting their children under discipline and paying high tuition, as well as public school taxes, is worth it. 61.9% of Catholic hs grads go on to get a four-year college degree. 31.1% of public hs grads go on to get a four-year college degree. https://www.cnsnews.com/news/articl...lic-hs-students-twice-likely-graduate-college
Excellent post. I must say that OUR experience was little negative when it comes to academics but wonderful when it comes to learning about Christianity. However, it would be understatement to say that Catholic schools are really good on average. I apologize if I offended anyone.
See, that is exactly why religion should not be taught in schools. The teachers are ignorant about the subject. You should sue for having dumb teachers that taught you nothing but BS. The 6th Commandment is found in Exodus 34:22 (NRSVCE) = *You shall observe the festival of weeks, the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the festival of ingathering at the turn of the year.* As I have said before, all of the biblical stories illustrate one or more of the Ten Commandments. The 6th Commandment is illustrated by the passage from Zechariah 14:16-19 (NKJV) = *16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. 18 If the family of Egypt will not come up and enter in, they shall have no rain; they shall receive the plague with which the Lord strikes the nations who do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 19 This shall be the [a]punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not come up to keep the Feast of Tabernacles.* The Feast of Ingathering is also called The Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot. In 2019 it is from sundown on October 13 to sundown on October 20. https://www.bible-truth.org/Feasts-Tabernacles.html https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukkot This video explains the real Ten Commandments in detail. The 6th Commandment is at 32:50 minutes. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...573F4877A38D783E89CD573F4877A38D783&FORM=VIRE
But there are many, many times when, according to the Bible, God commands people to kill. He even occasionally orders the killing of children. I've heard "Do not murder" as a translation, but that comes with the justification that anyone God tells you to kill doesn't count as murder.
How do you believe other religions like Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism should be managed in schools?
Chance is a theology. The idea that all of this happened by chance, without design or forethought is a theology. Chance is what people call the void where the knowledge of God is in others.
You will never find the answer to where things came from by looking at religions for answers. They think that the stars will fall to the Earth.
I was watching first few minutes of this video and I can’t answer you because this man is saying something completely different from 10 Commandments. My native language “I am your Lord and don’t have any other Gods besides me.” Some can translate “but me” however first translation suits the language. Then he goes on to talk about someone’s wife and her parts in what he claims to be 10th Commandment. 10 Commandment in my native language “Do not wish nothing what is someone else’s” I mean from my perspective there is no point of listening any more. Also he has some anti American feelings and agenda.
Please give me examples so that I can lookup this and think of answering. I am not an expert on Old Testament. I do read Psalms often but complete history of the Jewish wars I luck understanding of. Hey I am here to learn.
As it says in Sirach 21:19 (CEB) = *Education is shackles on the feet of the ignorant, like manacles on their hand.*

I never saw a school (elementary or high school) that taught anything about Judaism, Hinduism, or Buddhism, but I've seen schools that taught Christianity. Maybe you mean "like they are managed now", meaning just ignore them.
