elephants are fascinating animals and have more in common with us then people suspect...they remember faces and kindness from humans, they really don't forget...they grieve for their dead just as we do and return to their dead and pay their respects...they live approximately the same length of time as us...they reach adulthood at about 18 also like us...they suffer from PTS just like we do, shoot their mother or child or any family member they're traumatized for life by the event just as we would be...the more they're studied the more their emotional intelligence is found to resemble ours...because they don't build homes or drive cars we tend to think they aren't intelligent but that's wrong, they never had an evolutionary need to build homes, cars, weapons, we could be slaughtering a sentient being because see them as dumb animals and we don't recognize it as sentient, hopefully any potential visiting alien life for doesn't make that error with us...

    Definition of sentient
1 : responsive to or conscious of sense impressions sentient beings
    2 : aware
3 : finely sensitive in perception or feeling

The article that talks about success of trophy hunting in some countries and the bankruptcy of conservation groups that eliminated trophy hunting or the other article written by a philosopher for a non profit?

I’m sure the poachers are taking the weak sickly animals and leaving the best genetics to reproduce. Poachers are all about ethics after all. :)

I hear you. I’m just trying to keep this discussion rooted in reality. We can’t have everything we want. Unfortunately.

    You’ve made some good points.

Isn’t this thread fascinating? We never hear the end of complaints about how we have no right as Americans to tell other countries what kind of government they should have or how many of their citizens they can off. Also, we haven’t any right to tell women what they can do with “their body”. And we have no right to criticize anyone’s culture—especially those with higher levels of melanin.

Yet, here we are telling a bunch of foreign black people what they ought to do with their own freaking animals.

Sorry just struck my funny bone. :)

    Carry on.

What does that have to do with anything.
You need to learn what melanin is.

    Then why bring it up?

What do you think melanin is? Been trying to figure out your angle and I’m coming up blank.

Yet another load of bovine excrement without any shred of credible substantiation.

Murdering a very young elephant does NOT do any good for the preservation of an endangered species

Only the gullible believe that there is "overpopulation" amongst endangered species like elephants.

    Wrong again!

Elephants only reach adulthood at age 18!

This elephant was only 5 years old and had probably not even been fully weaned yet which occurs around age 10.

Would you call a 5 year old child an ADULT?

The appalling lack of subject matter knowledge is glaringly obvious!

A 5 year old elephant alone in the wild would not survive just as a 5 year old child alone in the wild would not survive because NEITHER has learned all of the necessary survival skills at that age.

All meat comes from what is essentially the murdering of animals. So ultimately what difference does this incident make? Every cow, every chicken, every pig that is slaughtered and rendered for sale on the market is killing in an act that constitutes murder.

How interesting it is that such a statement is made on the part of yourself, comparing elephants to humans. In human law, an individual who is under the age of eighteen and is still legally a minor, can be tried in a court of law as an adult if their crimes are serious enough. If a sixteen year old commits first degree murder, they are not given a pass because they are not eighteen, they are treated as an adult.

Therefore an individual, be it elephant or human, does not qualify as a baby simply because they are under the age of eighteen.

Many animals, regardless of their age, do not survive in the wild. Not all stories are success stories, or otherwise possess happy endings.

not the same at all, like saying using antibiotics is the same as killing billions of animals

or spraying for fleas is the same as killing thousands of elephants

Semantic dissembling that effectively BLAMES the VICTIM for being murdered!

There simply are no words to describe whatever motivates that kind of noxious drivel!
